I honestly don't know what to think, I feel numb, half of me knows hes gone and the other half refuses to accept it. It started when he was 17, he got in a bad car accident and they had to remove his spleen. He recovered from that and went to college where he met my mom, 30 days after he met her he asked her to marry him. They were happily married for nearly 30 years. When I was 8, about 11 years ago, my dads health problems got worse, he contracted viral pneumonia and had to get both his arms and legs amputated, but being the strong man that he was, he said "fuck off wheelchair! I don't need you" He learned to walk with his prosthetic limbs, learned to drive again, could do just about anything he used to be able too, he just needed help from time to time.
We didn't mind helping him, my brother and my two sisters, he got on our nerves sometimes over explaining how to do things, but he was our dad and we loved him all the same, he was the best goddamn father in the world as far as we were concerned, he let us have our independence, but still offered guidance and advice, he taught us how to do things, work with tools, build things, and taught us about right and wrong. Eventually we all grew up, my older brother went off to college, I went for a short lived stint in the military, but was discharged for nystagmus, but no matter what path we chose he was always proud of us.
About a month ago he came down with jaundice, his liver was failing, he got on some meds and eventually went to the hospital, about a week later he was moved to the ICU. Last night my mom called me, and told me that I should come to the hospital, my dad wasn't doing well. I told my managers at work that I needed to leave and hauled ass there, when I got there he was a wreck, he had a breathing tube in and a bunch of ivs, he didn't notice we were there at first, but he woke up a little later and we spent most of the night talking to him, he couldn't speak back but he listened to us and nodded. We stayed at the hospital all night, by the time morning came his blood pressure was dangerously low, but he held on till just before one o'clock, on Veteran's day of 2010.
I don't even know what I'm going to do now, I can't even register the fact that he's gone, he was always such a major part of my life, a pillar of strength for me, I'm doing everything I can to just hold together for my mom right now. Anyway, I just needed to let myself out a bit, and talk to some strangers, I hope your veterans days are doing better than mine.

Sorry for your loss man, I can't even imagine losing one of my parents. You shouldn't hold it all in though, if you need to release you should release.
