I have a pretty simple question. After reading countless threads about "I hate my friends" and "How do I impress this girl?", I find myself wondering why people resort to posting their personal problems and lives on a forum? Don't get me wrong, I've had occasions where I will be in a predicament and I've contemplated "What if I ask people on Facepunch?" Then I come back to reality. I mean, really; why would anyone on here want to hear some of these mundane stories? Must you really resort to asking a forum for a solution? I can see when it'd be appropriate if you had a community of close friends (as in you know them in person as well) on the forum, but in most cases; no one does. Some of the stories or questions come across as funny or entertaining sometimes I guess, which would make people disagree with me. Sorry for the random rant. It's just been on my mind for a while now. I don't know, thoughts anyone?
TLDR: Why post your personal lives/questions on a forum where potentially no one really cares?
Why not
GUN + OP's Head = Fun!
To create a story and throw it out here to see the response.
Why am I reading this thread?
These are your personal thoughts, and that's not far from posting your personal life.
I personally like reading personal threads.
Sometimes people help other people :colbert:
But I do agree in that people shouldn't be posting this kind of shit on FP, of all places
If a discussion or a few jokes can be made from it how different is it from any other thread?
To get an outisde perspective on their problems? People who don't know you personally can give very different (potentially much more useful) advice than close friends who know you very well. Of course the caliber of advice you get from the average FP'er isn't always so helpful, but hell if that'll stop people from posting their problems all over here anyway.
for ratings duh
rate me funny
What's the big deal? If they post it, obviously they want advice (not that FP is the best place for advice) or help. Just ignore it and let other people help them.

rated tool.
Why post anything at all
Because I have no IRL friends, and my family doesn't give a shit. :ohdear:
OP, if the world was filled with people like you, it'd be a very boring place.
You gotta admit that asking for help on such an anonymous place can help. Its easier to be forthcoming and blunt about you feel.
This thread is personal

Oh, how so? Because I like to keep my personal problems off a fucking internet forum? It's funny how you'd predict how this world would be if there was only "me" in it. It would be boring because...why? Because you disagree with me? Excuse me for finding it slightly odd that people want to seek advice from a thread.

I think you're over-thinking this.
I don't know why people post their personal life stuff on the internet, most of the stuff is what people could care less about. (I bought ice cream, checked the mailbox, drank water, etc.)

please keep your personal problem with his statement off this fucking internet forum thank you.
To alleviate stress/pain/any emotional feeling...and sometimes to feel comfort in that you acted correctly in a situation

Maybe I am. Regardless, I still find it ridiculous.

Some situations that people can get into are just hailarious.
Because they don't have real friends to confide in.

Because people feel better when they talk about something that is causing them distress. And people a good majority of people care, it is just the ones that don't care get the most attention. Plus someone has shared a similar experience and there is always something to be learned with a personal story.
This thread is personal
This is a personal thread in the fact of opinion, not a personal problem seeking a answer. Every thread is personal; opinion or not.
Well its a simple answer, most everyone on FP are strangers to each other. If I had a really personal problem and I couldn't talk to friends or family because they might change their attitude towards me, I'd post on a forum like FP, mostly because no one really cares.
Because, It's a way of starting conversation, finding "friends" on the internet. Along (as posted top) as an outside perspective of what should they do if they don't know how, or what happened in life. Or just to have a chat.
Also out of the so many people that do help with advice, usually atleast one is good.
