• Iran Nearing Record Year For Executions, Including Public Hangings of Juveniles
Iran has reportedly executed at least 183 people during the first six months of 2011, with reports of an additional 130 executions that have gone unacknowledged. Those figures, according to Amnesty International statistics, put Iran on course for a record year for capital punishment. In 2010, 253 people were executed, including 170 people for drug offenses. Up to 300 additional people are also believed to have been killed. According to Iran Human Rights, an independent watchdog, the actual number is even higher. A total of 25 people were hanged on July 3 in Ghezel Hesar prison in Karaj, west of Iran. The executions, which were believed to be for drug-related crimes, were not reported by official media, the group says. The number of public hangings is also on the rise, according to Amnesty International. At least 13 men have been hanged in public this year as of April 27, compared to 14 such executions recorded by the group in 2010. Two juveniles -- identified only as "A.N." and "H.B." -- were among three people hanged in public in southern Iran after being convicted of rape and murder they committed at age 17. "Yet again, Iran has distinguished itself by being the only country this year to execute juvenile offenders. No more juvenile offenders must die at the hands of the state,” Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, deputy director of Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa Program, said in a statement released in April. "Not only were these young men executed for crimes committed when aged under 18, but their executions were carried out in public. Public executions are not only a violation of the right to life, but are a gross affront to human dignity which cannot be tolerated."
Source: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/07/08/report-iran-on-pace-for-record-year-for-capital-punishment/#ixzz1RaQuQoXs Starting to think someone typo'd in 2003 and hit Q instead of N in a report....
Not surprising considering what a lot of Middle Eastern nations have gone through recently.
Shouldn't someone be invading this place?
They have some pretty barbaric rulings in Iran. For example, if a respectable, wealthy man rapes a woman, the man gets lashes while the woman gets the death penalty.
Execution for drug related crimes? What the fuck. I wonder if Starpluck will come running to their defense this time.
I don't see why Republicans hate Iran so much, they basically do all the horrible things Republicans wish they could do. Anyone ever saw pictures of what Iran's was like in the 70's? ( The urban areas ) It's like, the completely opposite of what it is right now.

They still do public executions? What the fuck I thought we moved on from this hundreds of years ago?
I wonder if Lukepker will ever argue a point that doesn't involve furiously pounding the dumb rating.

But the Islamic revolution that sprung up against this westernized ruling was taking over by Islamic fascists, those guys that are in power today.
During the 1980 people protested just like today most of them got mass murdered 1988? These people had a more open and acceptable view of Islam. Now they are back to the stone age morals.

Without a doubt, this proves what a backwards nation Iran is.
They still do public executions? What the fuck I thought we moved on from this hundreds of years ago?
last public execution in the US was in 1936
I get the feeling the majority of Iranians want nothing to do with any of this but naturally everyone's too terrified to do anything about it. Really a sad state of affairs over there, wish there was something that could be done. It's a shame, there are probably a ton of really intelligent Iranians what with their science programs and universities. They're just all brainwashed or hopelessly oppressed.
I didn't know it was THIS bad in Iran.

It's was Khomeini that ordered it based on fatwa. Aka stupid stonge age morals.
