[release]We want YouTube to be the best place to upload video. Without question, the number one requested feature by our creators is to upload videos longer than 10 minutes. We’ve heard you, and today we’re pleased to announce that we’ve increased the upload limit to 15 minutes.
We encourage you to take full advantage of this new time limit by making a video of your “15 minutes of fame.” Imagine that this video is all the world will ever know about you: what would you want to communicate? What will be the enduring stamp you’ve left on us all? Tag your video with “yt15minutes,” upload it by Wednesday, August 4, and we’ll select a handful of people to truly gain their 15 minutes of fame by featuring them on the YouTube homepage in a future spotlight.
In the meantime, you may wonder “why now?” -- the upload limit for non-partners has been 10 minutes for years. Well, we’ve spent significant resources on creating and improving our state-of-the-art Content ID system and many other powerful tools for copyright owners. Now, all of the major U.S. movie studios, music labels and over 1,000 other global partners use Content ID to manage their content on YouTube. Because of the success of these ongoing technological efforts, we are able to increase the upload limit today. We will continue our strong commitment to provide advanced technology and tools to protect the rights of small and large copyright owners worldwide. We’ll also do everything we can to release incremental improvements like this one that benefit our video creators.
One final note: if you’re uploading a video that was previously rejected for being too long, you’ll have to go into “My Videos” and delete it before attempting to upload it again. Thanks and happy uploading![/release]
okay can people now stop whining about how YouTube "sucks since it's been bought by Google"
Oh boy! Five more minutes!
Remind me why I give a shit.

No, time limit ranks pretty low on the complaints about youtube
Good news as this is, it takes me 2 and a half hours to upload a 10 minute video anyway, still that's really great of youtube.

Not that it matters. But hey, it's good for the people who make longer videos.
YouTube still sucks. People don't hate YouTube just for the time limit.
Edit:

who gives a fuck - if your video was longer than 10 minutes, all you had to do was divide it into parts.
Don't they still get like 20 hours of video uploaded every hour?

what goddamn copyrights? most of the shit being used is under fair use.
Thats great...time to enjoy even more buffering!
I've noticed that YouTube has been processing videos really fast recently, before it could take like up to half an hour, uploaded a video yesterday and it was processing AS I was uploading it.

Which is annoying and retarded.
Anyway, youtube doesn't have porn or movies on it. I can get better shit on liveleak.
This means Let's Play videos can now cover more.
I'd much rather have a less shitty comment system.
15 min is nothing.
note: the previous limit was 10 minutes but it was actually 11:00, I wonder if it means it's 16:00 now
You've been able to go over their limit before, as far as I've seen they don't really enforce it. . . .

True. 20 minutes would be a lot better.

It's not the software, it's the users. Maybe there could be a blacklist for commonly used words/ phrases/ misspellings and if you get too many your post gets deleted and you get warned. 5 warns and you're banned.
Oh, and they should make it 18+ and dedicate the spotlight to police brutality and pornography.
I hope I can still upload infinitively long videos.
[editline]herp[/editline]
Yep
The majority of Youtube users don't have a 15-minute long attention span.
Finally, something useful from Youtube recently!
So that's why they implemented the snake game.
Remember back when you could set your user type as "director" and get unlimited video length?

Only users who signed up before '07 can upload videos longer than 15 minutes.

I have a 2006 directors account, I can still upload videos with unlimited length. :smug:
That means you can watch an episode of a series usually around 24 mins in two videos instead of 3 now!
Cool!
I don't get why people bitch at Youtube
