Harvey Weinstein — the legendary movie mogul behind some of the most violent films ever made — says Hollywood should look in the mirror in the wake of the “Dark Knight” massacre.
Weinstein is calling for an unprecedented summit of the industry’s top filmmakers to address how on-screen violence might be leading to real-life bloodshed.
“I think as filmmakers we should sit down — the Marty Scorseses, the Quentin Tarantinos and hopefully all of us who deal in violence in movies — and discuss our role in that,” Weinstein told the Huffington Post.
Weinstein insisted that the Hollywood elite can’t “shirk our responsibility” for potentially inspiring the rampage in Aurora, Colo., that killed 12 people and wounded 58 others.
“It’s a question that I wrestle with all the time,” said Weinstein, who produced such gory films as “Kill Bill Vols. 1 & 2,” “Inglourious Basterds” and “Reservoir Dogs.”
“I’ve been involved with violent movies, and then I’ve also said at a certain point, ‘I can’t take it anymore.
Please cut it.’ You know, you’ve got to respect the filmmaker, and it’s a really tough issue. My heart goes out to those kids and those families.”
Weinstein’s calling out of Hollywood is sure to rankle some industry big shots, but he saved his sharpest barbs for the nation’s political leaders.
The Oscar-winning producer gave a full-throated endorsement of Mayor Bloomberg’s crusade to curb the nation’s gun scourge — and chided Republicans and Democrats for not rallying behind him.
“If we don’t get gun-control laws in this country, we are full of beans,” Weinstein said. “To have the National Rifle Association rule the United States of America is pathetic. And I agree with Mayor Michael Bloomberg:
It’s time to put up or shut up about gun control for both parties.
“Mitt Romney better outline where he stands,” added Weinstein, “and people know that I’m a firm supporter of the President, and I believe he’s got to do the same.”
Weinstein shouldn’t hold his breath.

Oh comon, why are you appealing to psychos and losers.
Yeah but uh the shooting happened BEFORE the movie was shown
For fucks sake, there are hundreds of high violence movies out, and just because one fucking psycho piece of shit kills people in one relatively low violence movie (it's pg-13, there isn't even any fucking blood!!) everyone wants to flip shit and stop making violent movies.
violent movies are the new violent videogames
Yeah I think Hollywood is trying to take a little too much credit for their role in the shooting.
Bull. Fucking. Shit.
This could have been the premiere for the latest Twilight movie and the psycho still would have gone on a rampage. It has been demonstrated time and time again that violent entertainment does not correlate to actual violence. The murderer was mentally unstable. That's it. End of story.
People like this guy should learn that correlation does not mean causation.
Let's start adding more sex scenes and less violent scenes and see what happens. The next rambo movie will just be stallone making love to his knife.

He's making a good point here.
I don't understand how all these important figures can't understand that some people just desire to cause violence. It's kind of funny, seeing how Alfred fucking said that.

Just ban fucking everything that has violence in it so no one thinks of doing it.
While you're at it, remove sexy scenes from movies aswell because that will lead to a shitload of teen pregnancy!
:downs: you know what? I feel like eating the guts of every maniac that sparked shit like this. I know its a huge contradiction to what I just said, but fuck sakes its like they do it on purpose to fuck up people (literally) and other's entertainment.
They shouldn't be changing anything in the film industry. If they do, then the asshole fucker who killed those people in Aurora wins.
loving this knee-jerking here, we obviously have to take away something that the vast majority can handle after a loose screw finally snaps
I know a bunch of people died but aren't we going just a little overboard here.
it doesn't

Won't make a difference anyway.
So what, we're gonna ruin a part of the movie industry because of a maniac?
People will still do this shit
I'm getting sick of the world I live in, where blame is passed onto something that has nothing to do with the result of the actions of a sick person.

I think there are idiots who kill people just because of small petty things, like a dog shitty on their lawn.
Therefor, ban all dogs and lawns.
But seriously, if we start doing things that way, we are heading towards a nanny state like world order.
And this is why sometimes I just dislike America. "OH GOD SOMETHING HAPPENED! Let's blow it up by throwing more gasoline! That'll he--OH FUCK NO IT DIDN'T! I propose we limit gasoline laws!" Bad analogy, but I hope that gets my point across

I propose an IQ test for everybody and their grandmother, anybody below 100 gets shipped into space :v:
I can't wait till we see the movie version of the shooting and the planning up to. I hope Uwe Boll makes a sequel to Rampage and has this as part of it.

I immediately thought of Rampage when I read this. Uwe Boll Conspiracy is in effect.
Also, find it kinda funny since he funded inglorious basterds and how there was the whole theater shooting and all.

Rampage was a good example of good actors making a shitty movie tolerable. But Boll took over at the ending and it became a paradox. Guy even burns money in front of people to prove how little value it is, but the ending turns it into a heist movie.

Sorry, never saw it. Just knew the gist of it, but I didn't know the acting in Rampage was good
Well. It varies. The main actor though is quite decent because he has been in professional projects.

You celebrate now, but just you wait till you find out it's only a 6 inch sub to share.
Why do we always have people assuming he did it because of the movie? When I was a kid people who did this sort of shit were just crazy. Isn't it entirely possible that the shooter was crazy? Or just a sane person who is an absolute bastard?

Whether or not he's right about movies and violence this is a shitty argument.

Actualy you weren't serious, never mind.

People just can't see some just want to cause chaos for the sake of chaos. It doesn't matter what laws you'll place, fuckers like James Holmes will find a way to fuck your peace of mind
Honestly, I'd say that some people just do these shootings to fuck with the media because they don't give a shit about their lives and want to make a lasting impression.
If I was going to cause a shooting, id be sure to leave a ton of evidence that would cause debates over subjects.
Yeah I think Hollywood is trying to take a little too much credit for their role in the shooting.
I think a lot of people feel very guilty because of the circumstances behind the shooting. This shows that these people are normal human beings. It's not uncommon for people to blame themselves over negative things happening that they, in reality, had no control over.
Let them have their summit. Nothing is going to come of it and it's probably their form of grieving after the tragedy.
