Nissan was the first to introduce an upgraded battery pack to one of the mainstream electric cars, the LEAF’s new 30 kWh pack, and was only recently followed by BMW with the i3’s new pack and soon the VW e-Golf with its 2017 battery pack.
We were expecting that the new 30 kWh pack, which brings the LEAF’s range to 107 EPA-rated miles, would help erase its poor sales performance in the US in 2015 with 17,269 units versus 30,200 in 2014, but as it turns out, Nissan’s LEAF sales are still in free-fall in the US and the Tesla Model 3 could have something to do with it.
Nissan published its US sales report for the month of May and confirmed that it delivered only 979 LEAFs – down 53.5% from the same period in 2015.
LEAF sales are now down 39% in 2016 versus the same period last year despite the availability of the upgraded battery pack and as previously mentioned, we need to take into account that last year’s performance was extremely disappointing and should have been easy to surpass.
...
Nissan is quite aware of the situation and actually launched a new ad campaign last month to attract Model 3 reservation holders. The ads are directly attacking Tesla’s reservation process:

It's not really a surprise that no one would buy an ugly low range EV with the Tesla Model 3 coming out next year for about the same price. It sucks that Nissan EV's aren't selling well now but that's what they get for not making a proper EV. Hopefully they decide to compete with Tesla rather than giving up on EVs all together.
Nissan Leaf looks alright to be honest, far better than the exploding Chevy Volt from 2011.

It doesn't look that good compared to other cars in the $30,000+ price range. You wouldn't see an ICE car that looked like that priced at that point.

I seriously don't know who would want to drive a Leaf.
It's so goddamn ugly...

That bumper looks like it was smudged out in Photoshop
Did they ever fix the piss poor range that leafs got? 100ish miles is really shit and the charge times are pretty bad
There's really no reason to buy a Leaf when you could just get a Volt and have a similar all-electric commute with the added bonus of a gas backup engine for when you want to take trips.
Did they ever fix the piss poor range that leafs got? 100ish miles is really shit and the charge times are pretty bad
Not really. They just came out with slightly bigger batteries but that was about it. Don't think they had any heating or cooling system for the batteries either, so winter range really sucked.
Well look at it, I wouldn't buy it if I were blind and they were the only cars available they're that ugly.
Pretty much any other EV looks way better and also isn't hot garbage.

Thats called a reflection, you can see the stripe of the road in it.

Are you sure about that?

The Leaf just looks like every other conventional hatchback out there. Boring as fuck? Definitely. Uglier than a Volt? You are fucking blind.
That said, Tesla is the only good looking EV automaker out there.
The Volt looks so much better than THIS thing

Seriously. Just compare the two.
Front is hideous I agree.
When you get to the side on the Volt though, that profile is disgusting as fuck in comparison the Leaf.
Don't get me wrong, I don't vouch for Nissan either. The Versa Notes are steaming piles of hot shit.

saying a volt is uglier than a leaf and then having the audacity to call other people blind
what a laugh

I'm having a heartier laugh every time I see a Volt from the side to the rear.
Especially when they catch on fire after a crash.

I'm referring to the 2011 Volt, the one I linked.
I'll stop this here though. I drive an Equinox so I'm not biased towards any brand.

You say the Leaf looks like a hatchback, but the Volt just looks like a normal Chevy sedan. (Albeit with those weird ass tail lights, but I guess auto manufacturers just have to find some quirky design feature EVs.)

Yeah the new Volt tail lights seem to be inspired from the new Civic. Not a fan of them either.
Leaf is pretty ugly in my opinion. It doesn't look too sci-fi but i don't get why cars such as the Volt, Ampera and BMW i3 need be all ~futuristic~
Also, it seems every electric car related news thingy is posted by you :v:

The Volt/Ampera is hella lot nicer to look at than a Leaf or a Peugeot/Mitsubishi i-Miev.
The Leaf is like a stretched third gen Micra.
You don't want to make a car look like a third gen Micra.
Or a Juke, like 1/4 Life said.
i think the leaf is cute :(, they're pretty popular around here in Washington, too.

The i3 is god awful garbage in looks.
It's as if the fact that its cheaper than the i8 means that it HAS to be ugly. Reminds me of the Active Tourer, also by BMW, but at least that is just an outright assault for the eyes.
What a Juke.
Even the Juke looks better.
I can't call the Volt an electric car as long as it has a gas engine in it.
I can't call the Volt an electric car as long as it has a gas engine in it.
That's like saying the Tesla isn't an electric car because sometimes you charge it from a power plant that burns fossil fuels. The average person will only use gas in the Volt when it forces you to to prevent the gas from expiring.
I see them a lot. I also live in Silicon Valley so I guess they're only being bought in areas with an EV infrastructure

You can't really call a hybrid an electric car. The engine is tied directly to the drive train, rather than just charging up the battery to power an electric motor if it's the same as other hybrids. You can't call the plug in prius a EV either. Plug in hybrids are just that, plug in hybrids. An EV with an ICE is the i3 that has a small engine to charge the battery.
