The real kicker here is that this Iron Man Mark III suit, made by (wait for it) Iron Man Factory, is actually fully wearable and made to fit anyone as tall as 5' 5" to 6'1". It also incorporates sensor-controlled motors -- powered by a AAA battery -- to activate the "thrusters" on back and even slide open the helmet so your loved ones can smack that smug Tony Stark-like perma-grin off your face. Oh and did we mention the 7lbs suit, which is made from a carbon fiber polymer and features a cushioned interior, also contains an LED lighting system? Yeah, there's that too, but also no lasers. Sorry, you can't have everything. There's just one major catch: Iron Man Factory needs to fulfill 5,000 pre-orders of the $2,000 suit before it can even broach the eight months of production time needed to build it with injection molding. For $200 less, you can always snag just the helmet, but if you're going to go all in, what's a few hundred more? Of course, this being an extreme cosplay toy for the one percent, Iron Man Factory's offering an expedited option that'll have the suit 3D printed and shipped out in only four months time -- for $35,000.
http://www.engadget.com/2013/12/17/wearable-iron-man-mark-iii-suit-made-to-3d-printed-order/
No jarvis or hands that shoot lasers. 0/10 would not buy.
I'd buy one if I had the money, but I'm 6"7 so no chance of fitting into it. :(
Unless they pay Marvel, its not going to go far.
wonder what disney lawyers are going to think.
Unless they pay Marvel, its not going to go far.
there's kind of a loophole when making fan productions for cosplay purposes, and it's that you're charging solely for materials/man hours building something. basically, you're supposed to work non-profit style where you break even for time and money spent, no upcharging for the product's namesake/demand 5,000 units mass produced however, that's stepping on some toes, and it's clear they don't hold any legal grounds at the moment [t]http://i.imgur.com/bWm41bx.png[/t]
It can´t fly, it can´t shoot repulsor beams, it can´t make coffee. What is it good for? [editline]17th December 2013[/editline] I bet it didn´t even solve the freezing problem and you freeze your ass off in winter.
I saw 2 really good ones at fanime this year. Or maybe they weren't all that good but they lit up and the mask did the same motion it did in the movies. They made a kid really happy

Sounds more like Fiber Man. They could have at least made it out of aluminum.
I'm also too tall for this :(
Not made of real iron/steel alloy, fuck that.
My $4000 limit credit card is trying to brainwash me into buying this
-Snip-
personally I wish it was an HEV suit with metallic or special plastic parts been waiting for that for years
I'd buy one if I had the money, but I'm 6"7 so no chance of fitting into it. :(
I have the opposite problem, being only 5"6 :(
personally I wish it was an HEV suit with metallic or special plastic parts been waiting for that for years
you could actually make one yourself if you really wanted to. build a paper model using pepakura, fiberglass the inside, apply plastic body filler on the outside, sand the outside until it's smooth and then spray paint it. pretty time consuming (especially if you build a whole hev suit), but the result should look just like the real thing. although, having it 3d printed would be way easier :v:
It repels women. That's kind-of a power.
All women? Not just some? *desires loudly*
I can see this being exploited in the worst ways imaginable. Iron Pony coming to a Con near you

They say they need 5k preorders, but won't charge before the suit is done and shipped. They would need to make loads at a time, and even if they made one per day, it would take them well around 14-15 years to make them all. They will need A LOT of money to make the first batch, and if it was non-profit, they would get their money back when the last batch is complete. Edit: They just seem like they got the idea of making them two days before starting. I've had a lot of experiences with people starting a project without the founds to do it. I just feel like it will end up the same way as people I know over steam that planned on making their own versions of garrysmod with a tiny team of people who barely had any experience in modding, modeling, mapping and so on. At least it's cheaper than a well-made fursuit.

Asking $1m in preorders to be paid as products are finished is a hell of a leap
"We need 5,000 preorders to start" Its like people just straight up forgot how small business used to start before kick starter campaigns?!
Thats like screaming for cease and desist letters
"We need 5,000 preorders to start" Its like people just straight up forgot how small business used to start before kick starter campaigns?!
There logistically can't be 5,000 god damn Iron Men on the whole god damn world.
Not gonna lie, I'd buy the shit out of this if a) I had the cash, and b) it wasn't likely to get C&D'd into oblivion
Dear Santa...

Come to think of it, if they can control when to charge people from the list of 5k preordering people, they could just charge everyone at the start. Poof, and they have fraud people for a total of $10 million. You know, they could just make them on order instead. Just suddenly mass-producing something worth that kind of money isn't really the way to go.

This all comes into play when you decide on a preorder requirement of 5,000, the profits need to be worth while for everyone involved in the project, their tooling overhead alone could very well be in the $100,000-200,000 range depending on what kind of equipment they're using.
I'd buy one if I had the money, but I'm 6"7 so no chance of fitting into it. :(
I'm also 6"7. You know what I wanted to be as a kid? A Jet pilot. That kinda died when I hit my growth spurt. Now I'm going to school for Mechanical Engineering so I can build my own things; things that will fit.
$2,000? Fuck that. You can be Iron Man WAY cheaper than that. . .for fifteen bucks, I'll shove a chunk of shrapnel into your heart.
