What is a good license to release work freely under?

I am currently working with a friend of mine who happens to be a hip hop producer. I am going to make him a website and help him manage the online aspect of his freelance career, as I have spent more time in this field and know this area better than he does.

I do have one question though, and I know that there are probably people here who can help me. What is a good license to release music freely under? I asked this section rather than the music section for the this section is geared completely towards creation, rather than the music section that is geared mostly towards construction.

We just want to retain some rights, the main factors we are looking for is retention of credit and the ability to distribute freely and for others to redistribute and alter as they see fit.
