World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria sold through approximately 2.7 million copies in its first week of availability.
Blizzard said the latest expansion helped push the MMO's global user base back above ten million, "with growth across all major regions, based on internal company records and reports from key distribution partners".
In August, Activision Blizzard confirmed World of Warcraft subs stood at 9.1 million, over a million fewer than at the end of the company's previous financial quarter.
The company has attempted to renew interest in the MMO by allowing users to play the first 20 levels for free. Blizzard lead game producer John Lagrave recently said the move gives new players "a good sense of what our game is" and that the studio doesn't plan to raise the WoW free-to-play level cap.
"With Mists of Pandaria, we set out to expand on the sense of fun and discovery that's always been at the heart of World of Warcraft - in addition to adding a huge variety of new content and features to the game," Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime said today.
"It's been gratifying to see the results of all of the work we put into this expansion and to hear all of the positive feedback from players so far."
The World of Warcraft development team is currently working on the first major post-launch content update Mist of Pandaria, and says further details will be provided in the coming weeks.

"The report of my death was an exaggeration"
ok we get it, WoW is still the top most subscribed MMO after all the supposed "WoW killers"
can we stop pretending like WoW is dead
I'll probably return once I get a better PC to work with for WoW. I don't know why, but the semi-recent mists update not only broke my addons, but brought my performance to a crawl....bad thing if ur a near end-game raider.
I still think the theme of the expansion is completely ridiculous

the pandaren were around since before kung fu panda
I don't know. It surely looks the same as ever (which isn't meant to be bad) but I can't really get myself up to play WoW again. It seems just getting crazier every year and I surely don't like Blizzard fucking up Warcraft's Lore over and over again.

You mean like the retcon that they did in Burning Crusade?
the pandaren were around since before kung fu panda
I still think its stupid.
"lets take asian culture, then replace all the humans with PANDAS!"
wow so creative and innovative thank you Blizzard.

I had better performance when I turned the settings up, for some reason. The optimisation isn't as good as it used to be.
I still remember the days of trying to climb out of Valley of Trials because I couldn't find the way out.

lol WoW is like the staple of generic fantasy
i'm sorry you expected obnoxious amounts of creativity

i think the common theme for videogames is so serious it's ridiculous
the pandaren were around since before kung fu panda
I think he meant more like that playing as pandas in general is really silly.
Next expansion: Baby seals & kittens

True I suppose. I still feel this is below that though. Warcraft lore pre WoW was pretty neat.

"lets take jamaican culture and replace the humans with trolls."
"lets take scottish culture and replace the humans with dwarves."
"lets take 18th century britain and turn everyone into a werewolf"
you do realise a lot of stuff in WoW is inspired by things in our world.

Well, in Burning Crusade you got to play as a space goat. So, yeah, nothing has changed.

Duh, I was born in January 1st, 1947
40-man Molten Core/Blackwing Lair raids, never again.
That was one huge turn-off for me, and they only lasted till the first expansion pack. But boy were they the salt of this game.

Vanilla raiding, good times. Getting one piece of gear per month, grinding money for an epic mount, PVP outside portal entrances, 40 man raids where half the raid is AFK and the other half is terrible.
There's an entire zone that follows Chen Stormstout and his niece Li Li, it's very reminiscent of the Jackie Chan Adventures cartoon.
I still don't know how people can bring themselves to pay $15 per month for a 7-8 year old game.

I don't know getting one piece of gear per month, but 40man raids were fucking awesome. I accumulated full Tier1, 2 and 2.5 sets for my Hunter back in the day. Shit was so cash.
Vanilla PvP was horrible though. Have fun grinding 800k-million honor per day to reach rank 14 for HWL weapons. On a populated server it was basically a full-time job until you reached the rank.
I still don't know how people can bring themselves to pay $15 per month for a 7-8 year old game.
Well because it's fun.
That's kinda how video games work.
Well because it's fun.

i'm more perplexed how people seem to think "I don't think it's fun therefore it's not fun" is valid logic
$15 a month is a ripoff either way, imo.
And no, before anyone attempts a witty response. I'm not talking about the fact that people can probably afford this. I'm simply stating that $15 a month after this 7 years is a fucking joke.
