A Halfords lorry bearing the "We Fit" logo has got stuck under a railway bridge in Beckenham. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to the scene at about 13:15 BST after the lorry trapped several parked cars on South Eden Park Road. The LFB tweeted: "Going the 'extra mile' might have been the better option rather than trying to squeeze under a bridge in Beckenham." Train services across the bridge were stopped as a result of the incident. A spokesperson for Halfords said: "We would like to apologise for any delays and inconvenience caused to road and train travellers and will be working with the authorities to carry out a full investigation."
[THUMB]http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/78043000/jpg/_78043223_2014-10-06-halfords2.jpg[/THUMB] BBC news: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-29514013
Well thats what you get when you don't know/forgot the height of your trailer
I'm assuming that there are those height limit signs around bridges and tunnels in the UK. Why did the driver think this was a good idea?

This is actually way more common than you'd believe

reminds me of the [del]guy[/del] several people who live right by a low bridge with lots of accidents like this

reminds me of the [del]guy[/del] several people who live right by a low bridge with lots of accidents like this
I pretty much wasted an entire day of work once going through that site.
Better(=funnier) picture:
we fit, in past tense.
reminds me of the [del]guy[/del] several people who live right by a low bridge with lots of accidents like this
I live next to a low bridge and trucks used to hit it all the time, though this time was my favorite : This happened about 5 years ago. Those were all brand new Kias. The driver may have lost his job, but I don't know for sure. There was a sign with the height, but it was old and faded, and the text was too small to see until it was too late. They've since added a much more visible sign, and far fewer trucks have crashed. Occasionally we get one that's unsure of how tall their truck is and slowly drives forwards to see if they'll fit, maybe scraping the top a bit before backing out.

Do you live in or around Orange county?
That bridge looks really familiar. Do you live in or around Orange county?
Yes. (unless you mean one of the other Orange Counties that isn't NY)
Only accident considering height of the car was when my mom drove our magnificent Toyota Hiace '88 into a parking garage and the sunroof was open causing it to hit the ceiling and fall off. Later, when I got a drivers license I drove the same car into a tree (brakes failed) but I still think what my mom did was worse.
Halfords wanted to charge me £6.99 to fit a new dipped headlight bulb, so I went home and figured out how to fit it and it only took me an hour because I have no dexterity. Totally showed those guys.
I'm assuming that there are those height limit signs around bridges and tunnels in the UK. Why did the driver think this was a good idea?
In the drivers defense its possible that he had just picked up the trailer and forgot the height. Which is terrible if true. There is a train bridge in a town near me that is fine for single decker buses to go under but for a while double decker busses returning to their depot would take it as a short cut, apparently the drivers just forgot it was a double decker that time.. Now they have a sign up telling drivers how to squeeze it through. Although in this case, I don't think the defense I previously mentioned really defends the driver, from the looks of it its one of those huge trailers that are literally the tallest legally allowed in the UK so they must have known they were driving something big.
