As we’re counting down the days until we’re ready to announce a release date for Diablo III, we’ve come to realize that the PvP game and systems aren’t yet living up to our standards. Today, we wanted to let you know that we’ve made the difficult decision to hold back the PvP Arena system and release it in a patch following the game’s launch. After a lot of consideration and discussion, we ultimately felt that delaying the whole game purely for PvP would just be punishing to everyone who’s waiting to enjoy the campaign and core solo/co-op content, all of which is just about complete.
While we work on making sure PvP lives up to its full potential, we hope you’ll find some consolation in the fact that soon, you’ll be having a blast leveling characters, finding items, learning the classes, and perfecting builds…and that when the Arenas do arrive, you’ll be all the better prepared for battle.
When the PvP patch is ultimately ready, it will add multiple Arena maps with themed locations and layouts, PvP-centric achievements, and a matchmaking system that will help you and your team get into fairly matched games quickly and easily. We’ll also be adding a personal progression system that will reward you for successfully bashing in the other team’s skulls.
We know a lot of you are looking forward to PvP, and we’ll be focusing our post-launch efforts on making sure the Arenas are as brutal, bloody, fast-paced, and awesome as we know they can be. In the meantime, we’re in the process of putting the finishing touches on what we think is a truly epic campaign and co-op experience for launch.
We’ll have a lot more info to share on the PvP system in the future, and we look forward to the moment we can get the game into your hands.
Personally, I'm okay with this. I'm guessing it is either really imbalanced, or just plain broken and I would much rather them hold it back and fix it then just release it and then listen to thousands of complainers say how imbalanced/broke it is.
I'd rather them just delay it then release an unfinished game.

I'm sure they looked at that as an option, but I'd imagine that they would anger more people by doing that rather than doing it this way. At least we can play the main portion of the game this way while waiting for the Arena.
I don't see anything wrong with this
Why delay an entire game because of an optional feature that isn't done yet
Just be glad it isn't EA handling this, they'd leave PVP in as broken launch day DLC
Haha, I remember when this happened in Runescape.
Like a million people quit.

This isn't anything like what Runescape did.

Well I suppose you're right

Goodness forbid we don't have finished games anymore. I can see it now:
Diablo III PVP access only $15

When has EA.. or any other company for that matter ever charged for a main gameplay feature like that? The whole EA/Activition ect DLC hate is extremely overblown.

A lot of people who are going to play for just the PvP won't be buying now
Knowing that it's activision, they'll probably include it in the expansion or make it so that it's going to be pay for.

Release date DLC is extremely stupid either way.

Pretty good move, as long as they make it better that is all that matters. I'm on my Nightmare playthrough with my brother right now in Diablo II.
pvp was never that amazing in D2, but maybe the arena-like system in D3 can make it better. i dont know too many people that would jump right into pvp at the very start without even learning their class or getting decent gear and id rather the pvp actually be decent instead of broken and unfinished. id also rather get the game than have it delayed some more even if it means some people are unhappy.

If you try and rent battlefield 3 for consoles, or buy it second hand, you have to pay $10 for a multiplayer code.
If you try and rent battlefield 3 for consoles, or buy it second hand, you have to pay $10 for a multiplayer code.
to stop used sales obviously and i agree with it
Looking to the pretty short development time it's an okay-move. Better delay it than just throw it out and be like "lol gonna fix dat later guise".

Which is 100% okay in my eyes. Why should Gamestop get all the money from used sales? It's not fair to the developer and in my opinion is worse than piracy.
Release date DLC is extremely stupid either way.
It's not so bad if the extra content was produced in the time coming up to the game being shipped, but still not ideal. What really pisses me off though, is on disk dlc. I'm looking at you, Capcom!

Which is what most day-one DLC is anyway.
to stop used sales obviously and i agree with it
Except the ability to resale is a consumer right pretty much every other industry is ok with.
Except the ability to resale is a consumer right pretty much every other industry is ok with.
well fuck the other industries? this isnt other industries, this is gaming. i and many many others fully support the anti-used sales thing theres absolutely nothing wrong with it
I'm gonna laugh if Diablo3 PvP community turns into same WoW "+2000 ARENA RATING OR DIE TRYIN SCRUBZ"
I'm gonna laugh if Diablo3 PvP community turns into same WoW "+2000 ARENA RATING OR DIE TRYIN SCRUBZ"
thats exactly what its going to be
I thought you were going to save "PvP" from Starcraft 2, which in that case I would be very quickly switching back to Protoss.
it's probably gonna be shit anyway
So no "low lvl duelz" games at release? I'm OK with this.
Release date DLC is extremely stupid either way.
B2K wasn't release DLC, it was announced prior to release while server beta was going and release around Christmas with the release date only being annouced in November because it wasant done yet.
They better not make up some bullshit later on where PvP is an extra payment.
