I don't think the generation's talentless, it's just now we have more access to people. Previous generations produced legends like Hendrix and The Beatles because the only way you could get a recording contract and produce records that would be distributed to enough people for anyone to actually hear about you, you had to be the best of the best.
Nowadays, anyone anywhere can at any time record something and distribute it to the world, so you as the listener end up in the same shoes as the record executives who back in the day had to wade through hours and hours of the worst acts before they found a Lennon or a McCartney.
It's a historically unique situation.

What do you mean? Clothes are all they own. Or it's most of what they own. Primarily, it's their only means of self-expression, because they can choose what they wear to a certain extent. Being at a young age where your whole life, or at least large parts of it, is basically dictated by other people, everyone feels that way.
So logically, being young, that's what they're going to make songs about. They just also happen to be unpracticed and undeveloped, a side effect of being young.

The guy making their beats is good...that's the only nice thin I can say.
