The goal is $829, but Kickstarter users have pledged over $21,000. This is borderline abuse of the Kickstarter system and the whole kickstarter makes use of the current rise of gender issues in video gaming, ‘Men VS. Women’ to populate itself.
http://www.playereffort.com/?p=3884
why do people get mad about what other people do with their money? Most people are probably just mad they can't think of a kick starter like that for themselves
how is this abuse? there are loads of stupid things like this on kickstarter
The reason this pisses me off is I struggled to find funding for my game that I have worked my ass off for years on end, barely making over the absolute minimum I could ask for and finish the project, meanwhile these people with actual money are asking for 10x the amount I asked for and then they get it within a couple hours, and they get another ten times the amount ON TOP of what they asked for. It's bullshit.
RPG game

Also a fucking kid doesn't need money to create a game. She doesn't have bills to pay. She doesn't have a family to feed. (User was banned for this post ("Flaming again" - Orkel))
That and her video, but you know that it has to be the mum who is behind it all and using a 9 year old girl is good marketing.
Alright well as of right now there are two possibilities. A.) Her mother is using her as a marketing tool to develop her own game and project or B.) The 9 year old girl is actually going to be making a game (with a bit of help I'm sure) in something like gamemaker or RPG Maker, both BASIC tools which can be purchased for under a hundred dollars. Either way, she's made over $20,000 over her initial goal and I'm sure the game won't be that good. I hate how it's labeled "support women in technology" Want to support women in technology? Tell attention whoring cunts like these people to fuck off. Every single colleague I've met in the IT/software development world has earned their place through hard work just like I did, not "being a cute child" "crowd-funding for education" or "being a female".

Also, to anyone says that I'm being a cunt for talking bad about this project in particular, Kickstarter has several guidelines. One of which is
Kickstarter does not allow charity, cause, or "fund my life" projects. Check out our project guidelines for details.
According to the Kickstarter page, here is where the money would be going.
Where's the Money Going? I really want a new laptop but my Mom said I should start small since I've never done a crowdfunding project before. So the $829 will be used to cover the basic cost of RPG Camp (not the overnight fees and extras). Here's a copy of my registration confirmation so you can see the details:
That certainly sounds like "fund my life" to me. Buying a new laptop, paying for education? I would really like to attend university and finish up my education in computer sciences. I wonder if Kickstarter will allow me to do this since I am not a 9 year old girl. While I'm at it, my AMD processor isn't cutting it anymore. I'd really like one of those new Intell Haswell i7 extreme processors when they come out. I'll let you guys know how that goes.

Also she says the 829$ will be used to cover the cost of the game, but she will ( If the 9 year old really codes ) make the game in scratch and as far as I'm concerned you can do that for free so she most likely just wants a new laptop and her mom wants to get money ( That's why she tries to make it all look professional and cute ).
I bet £50 that the game will end up being a shitty RPG maker game that doesn't use any new sprites, sounds or enemies.
stop being a sore loser, they obviously marketed their idea better its not bullshit at all.
I'm pretty sure it's only getting money because a 9 year old girl is in charge in the project. There's tons of RPG kickstarters out there that barely have funding, even if it's presentation is superior.
If you read into the guidelines, it even gives examples of "funding my life" kinds of projects.
No "fund my life" projects. Examples include projects to pay tuition or bills, go on vacation, or buy a new camera.
Okay well the girl is using the money to attend camp, that's considered tuition and the girl is hoping that any extra money will go towards a new laptop. Here's the quote from her page.
My goal is to raise $829 to cover the cost of RPG Camp. But my Mom just told me about the Veronica Mars campaign so now I'm secretly hoping to raise more. My Mom said I can put any extra toward a laptop. I asked her if I raised even more than that, would she let me spend another week away at RPG camp. She said if I raised the money, she'd send me to RPG Camp all summer (which would be amazing because my friends at home are great but they're not really gamers like me so it'll awesome to hang out with hardcore gamers like me that are my age).
Not only does her family not need the money, her mother is on CNN's list of most powerful female entrepreneurs. This is fucking bullshit. http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2009/fortune/0912/gallery.most_powerful_women_entrepreneurs.fortune/8.html
That and her video, but you know that it has to be the mum who is behind it all and using a 9 year old girl is good marketing.
the money is to send the little girl to a camp where they learn to use the program. i dont think you have any idea what you're talking about
I think I do, I think the mum is clever to get money this way and If I could have gotten money this way I would of which is why I do not think its a terrible thing or even remotely bad, just a clever mum.
First thing to do is get a better operating system.
Start8 invalidates everything you have said. I haven't touched Metro since I installed it (first day I got Windows 8, which was the launch date). I've seen the Metro screen maybe twice in the 6 months I've been using it. It's a faster, more secure version of Windows with more (actually useful) features and if the Metro is such a nuisance, you can easily go out and download Start8 for five dollars, or grab one of the dozen free alternatives.
Post something about your game, like screenshots or a website, I'd like to see and maybe I can support.
Me as well :).

It's also spitting in the face of everyone Kickstarter has ever rejected due to their "strict guidelines", many of which were a hell of a lot more legitimate causes. It's especially a shitty thing to do when the mother is a millionaire that is even on CNN's most influential female figures in business.
First thing to do is get a better operating system.
Funny, because it's better than Windows 7, so YOU should stop living in the past and upgrade.

Yea but my point of view is if you think of an idea that could net you money (and in this case teach your daughter about entrepreneurship) that doesn't hurt anyone then why not? Don't hold grudges against them, take up your complaints to kickstarter and point out how they have (supposedly, im not well versed in kick starter rules) broken the guidelines and get other people to do the same instead of just complaining on facepunch that its bullshit. I don't see any whining from them though
Also I feel it's important to note that my project was initially rejected because I didn't have gameplay footage and enough screenshots. I see neither. [editline]24th March 2013[/editline]
then complain to kickstarter you didn't donate any money for this. if people are going to complain then let the backers complain. You have to donate to complain and some people actually gave a dollar just to complain about it being against the terms of service. Like I said, it's spitting in the face of everyone who has ever been denied a Kickstart, imagine how the people who tried to Kickstart so a family member could afford their medications. Imagine how the people who were denied a Kickstart asking for money so they could afford a lifesaving or life changing medical procedure. Imagine the people who were denied a Kickstart so they could afford a proper education.
I really hope the project gets shut down. Just cos of her family it's not okay to violate ToS and get away with it.
I already reported it, It really shouldn't be up there.
First thing to do is get a better operating system.
windows 8 is exactly the same as windows 7 ultimate + a new start screen and some other stuff, this has nothing to do with his OS

The entire point of the "RPG camp" she's going to is literally learning how to make and then making a full RPG Maker game from scratch, so she will have a marketable product. And about the laptop, do we all suddenly think that the money that most game kickstarters make doesn't go to better equipment? PS: did you just switch to an alt for some reason
