As many of us know, there is an idea/theory of a sort of "Isometric War," which is basically PW, except instead of fighting in a 2D, we have a 3D view (Though, not completely,) by the use of Isometric art.
And if you asked me, I'd say this idea would be absolutely amazing. We could add depths to our firefight, we could flank enemies, the possibilities are endless. Unfortunately, there are many flaws in the idea. I created this thread to discuss the "IW" idea, and hopefully get a resolution to the these problems.
Some problems that plague IW:
-Facing positions, every unit needs to have a different sprite to show which way it's facings. Especially with vehicles, it would be quite a pain in the ass to create all of the facing positions. (However, for people, it may be as simple as repositioning a few pixels)
-Shadows, a problem I saw in many Isometric art threads were the lack of consistency in shadow facings. Though not really a problem.
-Isometric isn't fully 3D, it's like you're looking at the battlefield/map from an angle, so things, namely units, that hide behind buildings/objects will need some way to show they're there. I was thinking of maybe having a little temporary cutaway to show them.
-Buildings, I can't think of a proper way to show that units are hiding in a building, maybe show their faces at the windows or on the roof? But what if I want to hide inside the buildings, not use it as a bunker?
-Similar to buildings problem, how will we show the underground, which has always been an important part of PW. I suppose we could have two separate maps.

NOTE: These threads are very old, it would be unwise to post in them

Isometric City: (However, not ideal for inspirations for people, there are spectacular buildings)

Isometric Space project: (Same thing up there, but these should be inspiring for vehicles.)

Perhaps make it so that the first isometric PWs are on rather flat ground? Perhaps a WW1 themed Isometric PW :)
I saw you talk about this idea a little on one of the army threads. I see you've progressed a bit.
you should link to the latest isometric city
