What revolution? Russell Brand urges people to vote Labour
Election 2015: Brand urges people to 'vote Labour'
Comedian Russell Brand, who has previously urged people not to vote, has thrown his weight behind Labour. Aside from endorsing Green candidate Caroline Lucas in Brighton, he said people outside Scotland had "got to vote Labour".
Scottish voters, he said, "don't need an English person telling you what to do". Brand's comments follow an interview with Labour leader Ed Miliband - which David Cameron described as "a joke". But Brand hit back that there was nothing funny about what the Tories have "been doing to this country" Brand gave his endorsement on his YouTube Channel The Trews following an interview with Mr Miliband, among other politicians, in his east London home.
He accepted he had been "Mr Don't Vote", but stressed: "What I heard Ed Miliband say is if we speak, he'll listen, so on that basis I think we have got no choice but to take decisive action to end the danger of the Conservative Party. "David Cameron might think I'm a joke, but I don't think there's anything funny about what the Conservative Party has been doing to this country - and we have to stop them.
"If you're in Brighton, I think it would be a travesty if we lost the voice of Caroline Lucas in Westminster, but anywhere else you have got to vote Labour.
"We have got to get the Conservative Party out of government in this country so that we can begin community activism, so we can be heard continually."
Mr Cameron has said he "did not have time to hang out" with Mr Brand, a comedian and actor, who has become a high-profile, alternative voice on the political scene. The celebrity has campaigned against inequality, benefit cuts and corporate tax avoidance, and has spoken up on behalf of the rights of housing tenants.

Was anyone ever under the impression he was anything but a Labour voter?
Russell Brand is an idiot
This is actually quite hypocritical considering he doesn't agree with Labour on things such as on drug laws or the fact Labour support free market capitalism.

In a choice between a Labour lead or Tory lead coalition labour is preferable.
I'm not exactly sure of his motives here but I think that to a certain degree it's admirable to be able to change your views after learning/realizing something new, especially when you were so public and loud with those views before.
Tbh actors, artists, comedians etc should never tell people how to vote (or not vote). Because then you get cases like this with Russell Brand making himself look like a sell-out and/or an idiot. They are role models and should be above politics.
a dumb and terrible move by Brand
Its a choice between the conservatives which symbolise everything he hates and labour, a centre left party.
Its nearly a tie, of course he's going to tell people that labour is the best choice given what we have and risk being called out on it rather than risk another 4 years of the conservatives.
Everyone has said dumb shut about something they knew nothing about and later turned back it, then again, everyone here seems to think they are the bloody oracle.
he's a fucking spastic, claims to be a hardcore socialist yet here he is telling people to vote for a pro-austerity party. pretty sure he's only doing this for attention now.
Is Russell Brand's support even something anyone really wants? I can imagine Ed Miliband reading of his endorsement by the man who runs 'The Trews' in the paper this morning and falling to his knees in despair.
In unrelated news: Conservatives surge ahead by 10 points in latest opinion polls!
Russell Brand is an idiot
Really? Just because you don't agree with everything about someone doesn't make them an idiot.
All you're doing is making some of us who support him feel bad.

Good, the guy is an ex junkie who used to work for MTV but they got rid of him cause he used to get fucked up, jump on stage or fight people at festivals.
He's a useless asshole who thinks he knows shit about politics.

Post-Blair (New) Labour is Centre Right, mate.
He has a very positive enthusiasm. It's just wrongly placed.
Humility is probably so rare among celebrities because people never seem to allow them to have it. If he changed his mind after being vocal, whatever, at least he's not hiding it or excusing it.
I hope Labour get in so we can have ed miliband representing our country to the world.

Does the uk even have a major centre left party?
He looks like a clown.
Perfect candidate.
Green.
Depending on which policies you think they'll actually pursue.
so very much disappointing
Russell Brand is such a spastic. In all his rants and ravings calling for revolution on TV, I haven't once heard him demonstrating an understanding of British politics. If he actually displayed some understanding, then he'd have some sort of credibility, but his sheer ignorance and now apparent hypocrisy is nauseating.

I'd agree with that if his interview with Miliband wasn't so fake, I can't say I've ever really seen him roll over like that in an interview especially when they're telling him he's wrong.

I don't think disagreement is why people call Brand an idiot, more his pseudo intellectual style of speaking and that he can't handle anyone seriously questioning his views
Does the uk even have a major centre left party?
SNP is Centre-Left in its Salmond/Sturgeon incarnation, but that is a Scotland thing rather than a UK thing.
Green is Left, probably somewhere on the dividing line between Centre-Left and actual Left (Like OLD Labour). YMMV on whether they constitute a "major" party though.
Does the uk even have a major centre left party?
Yes, the labour party.
I refuse to vote for someone just on the basis that they're not quite as bad as the other ones.
Labour are for austerity, they don't want to reinstate our old public services, they have the same vested interests in healthcare companies as the conservatives, they're harping on just as much about the immigrants and the Debt and the as if those things are the be all and end all of politics, . I'm not going to vote Tory lite.
Russell Brand used to have this same view point. Now he's pandering. What happened?

I'd say the greens are pretty solidly left.
Yes, the labour party.
No, not really. They're Centrist, leaning Right, and have been since they became Blairite New Labour.
Which is what prompted his asking.

That's Brand all over for you, he's a feckless idiot.
And yeah, it depends who you ask. They're not left enough for some people, but as far as it goes, compared to Lab/Lib/Con they're certainly solidly left.

Well, no. You said that they were centre-right to him, prompting the question.
It is my assertion that you are wrong.
