Microsoft has started pushing Windows 10 out to PCs in preparation of its July 29th launch tomorrow. Those who reserved their free upgrade will begin to pre-download the bits today, and many in the United States and other areas have already started receiving the pre-download.
Some eagle eye'd users have found that the GWX folder is now filling up with Windows 10 bits, and many already have the .ESD which contains the entire Windows 10 operating system for installation starting July 29th. It was revealed a couple of months ago that Windows 10 would automatically be pre-downloaded before the launch date to avoid day one server struggles.
Can't wait!
I won't be upgrading tomorrow and probably won't until all of the new "convenient" features put in place by Microsoft are discovered. Like the wifi password sharing shit.
I've had windows ten for over a month and it's fucking great.

I still don't understand why people choose not to upgrade.
It's always just been a straight up upgrade. "Here is everything you like but better"
And it's free for most people as well.

Some people don't like things they did which limits options and stuff in certain areas.
I can't wait to upgrade though, loved the insider preview.

What options have they limited?
For my usage at least I haven't ever felt more limited by any Windows version, just given more choices if anything.

The drivers are really wonky at the moment.
I'm pretty excited! Probably just gonna upgrade as soon as it's available, deciding though if I wanna do a fresh install or not.
Anyone else take 10 minutes to find the motherfucking control panel?

"the drivers"
Which drivers?

if you have the pro version (which if you care at all about end-user functionality, you will) then you have lost literally nothing
i dont think people understand, windows 10 didn't remove any features, just because you cant be assed to search below the surface doesn't mean they're not there

*The graphics drivers are really wonky at the moment, with drivers uninstalling and reinstalling even in the middle of games, from what I'm reading.

Huh, never experienced anything like that myself, but of course different setups different experiences.
Lately my second monitor sometimes drops out for some reason (it rarely ever happens), but it fixes after a restart, probably related then.
Will probably solve itself quickly now that it's getting to the release build where nothing fundamental is subject to change.

Oh, I haven't really been keeping up with these things :v:

Because Microsoft isn't giving an OS for free because they love you. I would like to see what they want from me first before upgrading. Even if the free upgrade thing runs out I can always get it for free from Dreamspark so I can wait.

Even quicker.
Does the upgrade have the option for a clean install? It's probably about time I did one considering this pc is a few years old, but if I can install Win10 without putting 7 on first that'd be rather convenient.

No, they're giving a free upgrade out to win customer loyalty and their reputation back after the mixed reaction of 8

Yeah you can do a clean install or just an upgrade, at least on insider builds. Shouldn't be any different.
I think Windows 10 looks cool and I've been keeping an eye on a few things in it's development, however I want to give it a little bit before I dive right in and end up with launch-date problems. (And when I mean little bit, I literally mean just checking message boards real quick to see if it becomes impossible to run TF2 because of some weird glitch that needs a quick hotfix.)

Of course you can, it would be really retarded to make an installer for an operating system that's dependent on another operating system.

Press Winkey
Type "con"
Press enter.
Of course you can, it would be really retarded to make an installer for an operating system that's dependent on another operating system.
I was working under the assumption it might work the same way upgrade installations do, since it's provided on the basis that the user has a valid key for a previous OS.

Did they change the start menu after version 10160 or did you install a third party one to get that? Mine has the documents, pictures etc on the bottom left and it was a bit annoying.

I upgraded from 8.1 to insider preview and everything ~just worked~ out of the box. Didn't even have to (re)install anything.
That includes stuff like Garry's Mod (source engine), stuff that wasn't updated in ages like Fallout 1 and Fallout 2.
Anyone else take 10 minutes to find the motherfucking control panel?
I did at first, because they seemed to have another (and much easier to access) options menu which was extremely dumbed down.
If you can find the 'true' control panel which everyone is familiar with, then I'd say you're competent to actually not accidentally break your computer by fiddling with settings.

Windows key, type "control panel"
Is there any way to force the stuff to start downloading?
Umm
