Hello everyone I have a project where I have to write a paper about my
future career(3d modeling/animation,CGI,VFX), and part of this involves doing an interview with
someone in my profession and I thought I would be better to take on
the minds of this forum. If you would please answer whatever questions
you feel like answering just give me your name and what your position/specialty is so I can properly document where my info came from.
1. What is the minimum education required (If any) ?
2. Where would you recommend I learn ?
3. what specific skills or talents do you recommend to have for this ?
4. What ways do you see yourself suited for this career ?
5. What personality traits will benefit in this career ?
6. What are the starting wage's are seen here ? Where does they top out ?
7. What effects the salary range ?
8. Any cost involved in getting a continuous work-flow going ?
9. Will there be health benefits available in most studios ? What about freelancing ?
10. Is freelancing a viable way to support yourself ?
11. What other perks/benefits could I run into ?
12. What is the chance of employment in this field ?
13. What influences the availability of jobs ?
14. Describe what a typical day on the job is for you. (Morning,Mid-day,Afternoon,Evening)
15. What are your usual hours ?
16. Whats the best part of your day ?
17. Whats the most challenging part of your profession ?
You've picked the right place. Trust me, I'm a scientist.
I don't think there are any FP regulars who work in the 3D industry.

You mean working in Pixar or DreamWorks?
I know someone currently studying at the Academy of Art University pursuing just that.
Pretty much, either that or working for another studio composting effects into movies
Talk to Ajacks.
What is AAU in relation to Pixar/Dreamworks jobs ?
AAU is a uni thats really good with pixar/disney level of 3d/2d animation. And prepares you for places like that.

I wonder what the possibilities are of you knowing my sister. :geno:
Out of curiosity, just how many of you guys wanting Pixar/Dreamworks jobs are we talking about here.

I know the majority of our school are into animation, mainly 3d. And the place has around 11000-12000 students. Pretty much all the animators want to either work at feature film Disney for 2d, or at Pixar for 3d. Everyone always says Pixar first, then Dreamworks if they can't get into Pixar. Also pretty slim chance of knowing your sister.
:ohdear:
Oh well there's always Lucasfilm etc.
I'm GOING to go to AAU after I graduate high school this year.
I've also had three paid jobs in the 3D industry (two of which are still ongoing)
Why are people rating this dumb ?

Have you been accepted by AAU? If not, then you're probably not going.
You go to AAU?

Or have lots of cash flowing out of your nose and ears.
Have you been accepted by AAU? If not, then you're probably not going.
you don't really apply like most colleges, I'm pretty sure you just kind of enroll in classes
you don't really apply like most colleges, I'm pretty sure you just kind of enroll in classes
You sure? Last I knew there was absolutely huge demand for their classes, and I would assume that's only gotten worse.
Or have lots of cash flowing out of your nose and ears.
Not everyone has a lot of cash here. I might have a bit to not need financial aid, but all my friends are counting on financial aid to stay in the school.

They're pretty cool, they came over here and gave a presentation where every1 fell asleep. It was nice.
Have you been accepted by AAU? If not, then you're probably not going.
It's not hard to get accepted into this school.. It's pretty easy to get accepted here actually, it's just really hard to stay in. This place has one of the highest dropout rates in the US. My old roomate was a dropout lol.

You need to apply, and have a highschool graduate degree or a GED, it's REALLY easy to get in this school, only thing you need is the will to stay in it. It gets really fucking hard at times.

hahaah last year in the spring, there was this one guy named Charles, he was a wtf character.. He was in one of the Coed dorms and apparently, he used to walk right into a random girls dorm room and sit down on their bed and watch them sleep.. O.o .. He was let off with a warning 'cause the girl didn't press charges or anything, then he manages to find another unlocked door and walks in, and sits in the bed waiting for the girl to arrive and just sits there smiling at her as she gets in. He got kicked out of the coed dorm and was transfered to ours. He got roomed with one of my good friends, and after about a month, they got in a fight and Charles was kicked out :v:
[editline]08:22PM[/editline]
and he also had this weird facial expression. like he was laughing or giggling at you, but it was like he was holding it back, so you really had no fuckin idea what he was doing with his face..
GOD it was so awkward being in the elevator alone with him.
yes that's the one! :v:
I heard the dorms at AAU are awful
Is this true

a tad bit pricey, although convenient
you're better off finding a fellow student to share an apartment with
[editline]11:37AM[/editline]
a dorm's a dorm anyway so...
yes that's the one! :v:
Lol I can't believe you actually heard about that one. We still talk about that guy sometimes. good times.
I heard the dorms at AAU are awful
Is this true
Well it depends, some are really bad, like the one i'm in.. well not bad, it's just a basic dorm, small room with just a little bit of walking space etc.. some places like the commodore used to be a hotel that was bought by the school then converted into a dorm, so basically a hotel with keycards n stuff for each of the rooms, tv's, mini fridges etc.. And then there's the Bluxome lofts, oh god that place is sex. Huge 2 or 3 roomed apts, for the price of dorms, nice view etc..
All dorms are the same prices, the only problem is it's first come first serve, like me, i missed to good ones so i got shipped here to a Lombard motel converted to be the dorms. :<
