His full name is Brian Peter George St. John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno, but Brian Eno is much less of a mouth full. He is often referred to as the grandfather of ambient music. He used to be part of an art rock group called Roxy Music playing the synth, but then quit after the band furiously beat him on stage for missing a note which led to several broken bones and a dent in his skull which he fixed with a Ding King. His first few solo albums were artsy-glam rock music with only a few couple minute ambient pieces sprinkled in. He then got into making ambient music after he got into an accident and due to the pain he was unable to turn the volume up on his record player, so he let the music soak into the atmosphere. So he started working on long ambient pieces which are very calming and great for working, reading, or sleeping to. He also worked with some other musicians such as Robert Fripp (King Crimson), and David Byrne (Talking Heads). He also produced some albums with some bands like Talking Heads, David Bowie, U2, and Coldplay. For a first album I'd recommend Another Green World, or Before and After Science, which has both of his art rock stuff, and his ambient stuff. So here's some of his songs.
Needles in the Camel's Eye (From Here Come The Warm Jets). Queens of the Stone Age did a pretty good cover of this song.

Deep Blue Day (From Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks) This was on the soundtrack for Trainspotting, which I had recently watched. It's a good movie.

Good stuff. Thanks for making this thread.
Ah Brian Eno. The musical genius who isn't even a musician. Great stuff!
He also did one of the most beautiful pieces ever.

He actually refers to himself as a "non-musician".
Exactly - and a great deal of his musical output is his engineering skills - you name a classic prog rock or new wave album from the 70s and Eno probably had something to do with it.
I've never heard of this. I'd still call him a musician - he makes music!

He didn't do anything with Dark Side of the Moon, at least I haven't found anything about it.

My Life in the Bush of Ghosts is great.
Another Green World is an absolutely amazing album, it's probably one of the best of all time in my opinion and jeez, listen to Fripp's solo on St Elmo's Fire! I also have a few of his ambient albums, Discreet Music and Music for Airports which are pretty interesting too.
His solo for Golden Hours is also pretty cool.
I found this pretty cool documentary on him for anyone that's interested.

That was a joke. It didn't really happen.

Eh, ok. Funny.
Although he really didn't get along with the frontman Bryan Ferry, which is why he quit.
He's God.
Nuff said.
Without him there would be no ambient electronica.
I really have to thank you pie man, your music tips have helped me finish my essay!
Yeah his music is the best for doing homework and stuff.
That or Dr. Dre.
He has his songs in the movie The Lovely Bones. The movie sucks though.
Brian Eno composed the Windows 95 startup song.

Bowie's Berlin Trilogy was probably his creative high point, a great collaboration with Eno
