China's president has urged "decisive actions" against "terrorist attacks" in Xinjiang after a deadly blast at a railway station, state media say.
The explosion took place on Wednesday as President Xi Jinping completed a tour of the region.
Three people were killed and 79 were injured when attackers used knives and detonated explosives at Urumqi's south railway station, officials said.
Xinjiang has seen a series of violent attacks in the past year.
Beijing blames the violence on separatists from the mainly Muslim Uighur minority.
'Understand separatism'
President Xi's visit to the western Xinjiang region was the first since he became president in 2012.
"The battle to combat violence and terrorism will not allow even a moment of slackness, and decisive actions must be taken to resolutely suppress the terrorists' rampant momentum," Xinhua news agency quoted him as saying after the attack.
Mr Xi said it was essential to "deeply understand Xinjiang separatism".
Verifying reports from the region is difficult because the flow of information out of Xinjiang is tightly controlled.
That's pretty fucked up, I didn't know the tensions near China's borders were this bad.

china actually borders Afghanistan, and have their problems with al-qaeda too, since they apparently support the islamists on their eastern area.

Not trying to start a shitstorm, but China seems to only have problems with violent extremism in Xinjiang. There's just as much authoritarianism and political repression everywhere else, but only only real violence happens there or originates from there. Tibet, a nation with just as much reason to be upset, if not more of a reason, is mostly silent and peaceful. And what's the difference between Tibet and Xinjiang? Just think about it.
Its a miracle that China has managed to stay united with so many ethnic groups especially after their period of religious and cultural expression restrictions

Implying that i know what you're getting at you're ignoring the rest of the Muslim minority groups like the Hui which have been well integrated in Chinese society for years

i remember seeing an article about it, they basically had/and still have this tendency to "assimilate" other ethinicies, so you got folks from other ethinicies that view themselves as han, one of the exceptions are the uyghurs at the east.
