• Possible compromise on immigration reform takes shape in the Senate as GOP try for the Latino vote
Only after those steps occurred could the undocumented immigrants already in the country begin the process of getting permanent residence -- green cards -- as a step toward citizenship, the senators told a news conference. "They would no longer be deported, provided they don't have a criminal record. They would no longer be harassed, they would be allowed to stay here and work," said Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York in describing the immediate impact of the framework if crafted into legislation and enacted. The outline for a possible immigration bill reflects a new willingness by mainstream Republicans to compromise following their party's defeat in November, when President Barack Obama got strong backing from Latino voters.
http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/28/politics/immigration-reform/index.html
I always find it funny whenever the GOP and Republicans try to appeal to Latino voters. They suck at not being incredibly racist.

The general Republican party tends to be awful though. and it's been almost ten years since then. What did Romney get, out of curiosity?
George W. Bush wanted immigration reform and had good ideas about it, which is why he appealed to Latino voters. Republicans blocked his efforts though.
What did Romney get, out of curiosity?
27%. There are a few good ones, but most of them have shifted their goal from proposing useful legislation to blocking everything the democrats bring up. In my opinion, the GOP has already lost the 2016 election. They've made themselves out to be so stubborn.
That's because the GOP got hijacked by wingnuts.
That's because the GOP got hijacked by wingnuts.
And they're hellbent on running it into the ground. Also Latino voters are often strongly religious Christian voters (AFAIK especially Catholic), so they're often bouncing back and forth between parties.
