The designer of the Daleks from the BBC's Doctor Who has died aged 84 after a short illness, his daughter has said.
Former BBC designer Ray Cusick died of heart failure in his sleep on Thursday, Claire Heawood added.
The Daleks became the iconic villains in cult science fiction series Doctor Who, which is due to mark its 50th anniversary with events this year.
Exterminate!

The Dalek is such a charmingly fitting nemesis of the doctor. Didn't know who he was but, really, he did a stellar job.
Man, I really like the Daleks. Their design can make them great and scary in the right story, but downright hilarious on the wrong one (fucking looking at you Evolution of the Daleks. Fuck you. FUCK YOU.)
I've never watched Dr. Who, should i?
On another note, Rest in peace ;-;7

Yes. Yes you should.
Start with the series reboot, which starts with Christopher Eccleston as The Doctor and go from there.

It's a British classic; you definitely should.

It's a classic period.
It doesn't matter if your British, american, Asian, African, martian, anyone can enjoy and understand the friendly humor behind it.

Watch it before you die or else you will die a worthless, meaningless, shallow, and horribly slow and painful death.

Trust an American for once,
it's legendary
The guy behind the Dalek were exterminated and I didn't watched a single episode of Dr. Who.
I feel... Guilty. ;-;
That sucks and all, but I don't get Doctor Who. I tried watching it with a friend and it just seems like some shittily made corny Nickelodeon show with the occasional mature theme. And the special effects kinda really suck.
But still, rest in peace guy.

What episode was it? Try watching "Blink" by Steven Moffat, it was an amazing episode.
And RIP creator of my childhood.

Where are you going to vacation at? England?

I was new to the series and the first time I saw one, I started laughing. I mean, it looked so silly and that even a nasty angle or set of stairs would fuck it up.
And then it started floating. Got me pretty good. :v:

Be warned the humor is british.

It's worth a shot but I tried and couldn't do it, I can't deal with the kitsch.

Stop suggesting Blink.
Everyone suggests that. It's good, but it's not perfect.
I'd say watch Father's Day from Season One, or Tooth and Claw from Season Two, or The Shakespeare Code from Season Three, or The Unicorn and the Wasp from Season Four, or The Lodger from Season Five, or The Doctor's Wife from Season Six.
All of these are one-parters that don't really influence the season's story arcs and don't rely on concepts introduced on past episodes too much.
Am I the only one who finds Daleks adorable?
Rest in peace :(
EXTERMINATE

I'm all for suggesting episodes other than Blink, but not if the other episode is that horrendous fuck-up. That is the worst modern episode hands-down.

What? Unicorn and the Wasp was loads of fun, what with the Agatha Christie mystery format (and how they toyed with it in some aspects- plus, the episode looked very well), especially after the arsefest that was the Doctor's Daughter. And you can't possibly shove a fun episode in the same basket as the mounds of walking crap that were Fear Her, Evolution of the Daleks and Love and Monsters.
Father's Day from Season One
That was good drama but horrendous sci-fi.
One of the stupidest episodes in my opinion.
Also the Library episodes are fantastic.

Whats the 'Are you my mummy?' episode called?

I think the Martians would probably be offended by their negative portrayal in The Ice Warriors, so maybe they should give it a miss.

The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances.
Never found him scary, but I found his little phrase annoying more than anything.
