aaaaaw thats awesome.
cant really see where hes coming through/where all that debris is coming from though
Neato!
The organic and pink(!) design is radical. I was expecting another gritty, hard-edged mecha so this is definitely very different and refreshing.
I think it lacks a bit of punch though. I think it would be cooler if he came crashing through a wall or something, rather than just bonking his head against a overhead structure. In addition, I find the foreground to be rather empty. Some debris bursting out towards the viewer would have been cool, and given the smashing a greater sense of force.

Thanks kevlar for the input! Yes I agree with you about the foreground and that I could have done something more interesting like him bursting through a wall, but then all that was missing would be the mech holding a jug of Kool-Aid. But good ideas!
How do you get it so smooooth?

Big soft brush (like really big) with low flow, while holding down the pen when covering the whole area and not taking it up and down all the time.
That is fucking gorgeous
The limbs underneath the pink armour are in parts flat/lazy looking
The play of light at the top of his "head" is just incredible looking
reminds me of gurren lagann
Ooooooooohhhh
Those metal surfaces look spectacular

Though I guess I should say while I definitely get the "mechaface robot" I don't get the "smashing shut up." I can see that it's breaking up some concrete around the sides, but the symmetrical pose and centered composition make it seem very still and serene. Almost like they're digging the robot out of the rock rather than it bursting through.
On the left side of the composition where the mech's arm is hitting away the metal, it seems as though it's just placing its arm into a pre-existing negative space. What I mean is that there is no sense of motion, whether it be from diagonals, blur or dust/debris. There needs to be something that indicates the impact of that arm into the structure, and I think that it's really the spot that needs more attention for you to acquire that "smashing shit up" feeling.
The figure in the bottom left is also very hard to read for me, and distracts me from the main figure for this reason. It's hard to tell what it's doing or what it is.
Being a student of photography, I want to see more contrast as well between darks and lights, like so:

This could be accomplished with a final pass with photoshop though. See how it just pops though?
Your mastery of metallic textures is quite impressive.
Awesome man! You are killing it, this piece is really ace. Been looking for you on chat... I've been so busy and I can only get on when you're sleeping in Europe, but the school year ends soon and I'll make sure to get on earlier. Hope you're doing well man.

not everything needs to be using a full range. compared to the original it looks worse. plus he already makes the main element in the composition stand out through size relationships, color, placement, and that it's basically a radially designed character. it pops enough as is

Hmm, I see what you mean.

I would like to disagree. A bit more contrast actually makes defines the picture a bit better. It pops enough as is, but it can pop a bit more without it being overwhelming.
It shouldn't vibrate right out of the picture, it's in a warzone, it's dusty and shit
The original reflects that, that edit makes it look like it's right off an assembly line, having been lubricated to a mirror shine
agreed. higher contrast causes vibration which is unfitting for the context
