Australian Federal Police have raided the offices of Channel Seven in Sydney in relation to the network's bid for an interview with Schapelle Corby.
Just before 9:00am (AEDT) about a dozen AFP officers raided Seven's office in Pyrmont. Officers also went to Seven's base at Eveleigh.
Seven's commercial director, Bruce McWilliam, says the network was not given any warning about the search and says it is fully cooperating with police.
The network's Sunday evening current affairs program has been negotiating with the Corby family.
Mr McWilliam says the network has yet to make any payments to Corby or her family.
He says the raid is surprising because the network had given all their documents to the AFP after an order was served to the network last week.
Mr McWilliam says the raid will not stop the network from pursuing an interview.
"This is a story of great public interest. I think people probably do want to hear what she's got to say and we would like the interview to go ahead," he said.
"The fact is, as I understand it, no deal has been reached to get the story."
The AFP has confirmed it has executed a number of search warrants in Sydney relating to the Proceeds of Crime Act.
"This includes provisions for literary proceeds, where a person profits from their criminal notoriety," the AFP said in a statement.
"Literary proceeds action does not prevent a person from telling his or her story to the media. The provisions do not interfere with freedom of speech.
"The purpose of the provision is to prevent a person deriving a financial benefit from criminal activity."
this is fucked up.
Called it!
this is fucked up.
How is it? They've broken federal law if they've given her money.. and the federal police must have good reason to believe that they have; hence, the raid.

It's fucked up in terms of one woman that nobody cares about, but not fucked up that the AFP want to put a stop to it, especially since she's still in parole and can't speak to the media under Indonesia Law

This is fair enough, and she probably should be able to tell her story at some point. I mean to some people it surely would peak their interest to hear of her life.
But getting paid to do so? That's entirely wrong and sets a bad impression that drug trafficking can net you loads of money just for being caught and jailed.
Why aren't they allowed to give her money?

I did not know this existed, I'm pretty pleased to say the least.
Neat. I wonder if New Zealand has a similar law.

Probably, both Countries follow very on par laws
I hope she gets nothing out of this. I'm pretty sure she wanted to sell a story that she was innocent, because she wouldn't get in trouble under Indonesian law if she admitted she was guilty of the crime.
But bottom line is there was no way she was innocent, there was too much evidence that proved otherwise.

already served her sentence and she's on parole so provided she doesn't commit any other further offences in indonesia even if she changes her story she won't go back to jail
it has to do with the proceeds of crime act 2002 that the raid occurred under, nothing to do with her actual smuggling charges
More info on this:
AFP raided the wrong 7 HQ because the Sunday Night program are the ones wanting an interview with her and they are in another suburb, so when someone working at 7 told them, they all stopped and went "Fuck"
... Then proceeded to go down town and raid the Sunday Night offices
