Well, i'm 16 a 'wanna be' rapper if you wanna call me that, listen to old hip-hop etc, just anybody you can think of in the hip-hop era lyrically, sorry to sound like a noob or whatever but my idol's Eminem, but anyways i'm tryng to improve my skill further other with just writing shit, vocally (which i suck and know i have potential just been going through stuff and school but practice makes perfect) also by doing open mics and stuff, i'm going to New York this summer, but basically i'm wondering where any open mics, talent shows and so forth are located in Queens, New York, so if anybody that lives there in the area and loves rapping as much as i do, please reply, also had writer's block lately, so if you don't mind sharing with me your lyrics and all, that would also be great, i'll be gladly to listen, thank you for the information, i'd really appreciate it you guys.
Dude, good luck doing what you love. Glad to see you're doing open mics and stuff like that. I don't do rap but me and a bunch of friends got together and played a song at our school's open mic and that shit is nerve wracking. It takes some serious nuts to do it alone.
I'm no rapper - but I call this

Out there clubbing;
hittin' balls with the pros,
got Tiger Wood's eye'n
all my chicks with their ‘fros -
My score is eighteen
and there's eighteen holes -
Got eighteen phat hoes
gonna fuck all my poles,
The secret - ya'll hear?
to ridin' with me -
on my cart,
with my bitches,
gettin' all spriggity;
Spruce odor on my asshole
'cause I sweat when I glow,
Not 'cause I'm shakin'
but because I'm hung low;
Invest in Tesla Motors
so you're loaded as fuck,
When you lose it doesn't matter
'cause go pluck a duck,
Don't wear no fuckin' shorts
Like some pussy to tease -
Gettin' green on yo' knees
ain't like grass all you please;
(Chorus) Get some class, bro -
Khaki's with brass
glasses with past,
Walkin' fast
Ecco's outlast,
Whettin' my mast,
practice to blast,
nothin' too vast -
Wood's so broke
he's gonna need a cast.
A cast, mothafucker!
Yeah -
Win the Open and
you're playin' for keeps,
Ass-snatches up,
cashin' Patek Philippes.
But above all the rest
Yo', never forget -
one shitty green jacket
and yo' girlfriend won't regret
that you jizzed in her packet
and tried to forget.
Because your sex ed class was shit, man.
Education - yeah.
Yeeeeeaaaaah, smooth. Mmmmmm.

If you want to be big in any artistic area try something new. You can't get popular just copying everyone else. Find your own sound, express yourself, and have fun.
thanks for the advice and i think that's the reason why we look up to other influences, in order to find our own style
If you want to be big in any artistic area try something new. Your idol is Eminem? I like his old stuff too, but idolizing someone who raps about killing children . . . no.
Find that new sound that makes people want to tell their friends about you.
Always put your fans first, whether that means 10 fans or 10 million.
Honestly three tips for you man.
1. Read Books
2. Don't just listen to rap/hip-hop/pop
3. Practice everday
Otherwise you'll sound like every other rapper that never made it big.
Have any recordings of yourself you can post here? Maybe we can give some constructive criticism.
rap what you feel, make it real.
i got that already, been writing since i was in elementary school from writing poems
Honestly three tips for you man.

yeah, especially if you don't know what you're doing
I've never really sung before but a few good friends of mine practically forced me to sing Russian opera at our open mic night -- it went really well. apparently I'm singing Nessun Dorma tomorrow night at our open mic, oh jesus fuck
oh yeah, sorry the thread got derailed pretty quick. It's your fault for that title.
Before you can become a rapper, you first need to learn how to use proper punctuation.

and before you post maybe you should refrain from getting permabanned lol
best advice I can give is strive to be different
now a days not the best technical rappers seem to blowing up, but rather rappers that have a very unique sound. that's what you should strive for

Think of some lyrics and write them down, be hard-working, brave and true.
Drink your tea, stay up 'til three, and we'll take care of you.
Why do you rap, and what is it that you are trying to communicate when you rap?

What a pretentious ponce! Clearly you're not getting the point rap. "I told bitch to shut her mouth, yeh yeh, cmon y'all, yeh yeh, uh-huh, this beat is so sick, ah-huh!"
