Guys and girls, this is why we can't have nice things. With no disrespect intended to the major shooter franchises out there, it hardly seems fair that they can sell more copies in a day than the most creative strategy-RPG in years did in its whole run. Valkyria Chronicles 2 barely nudged its way stateside, and Valkyria Chronicles 3 this side of the Pacific? Forget about it. While Japanese fans are probably rejoicing at the announcement of Valkyria Chronicles Duel, a free-to-play, browser-based entry that retains many of the series' trademark mechanics and characters, those of us in the West are not likely to see it anytime soon.
A trailer for the game reveals that it has made a few concessions given its new platform and pricing structure, but still looks an awful lot like the three games that preceded it. Players will still recruit a squadron of soldiers of varying class and personalities to their cause, but this time, the warriors will take the form of cards. There are over 200 cards to collect in addition to building up a base camp, fighting tooth-and-nail for enemy territories, and even engaging in some fully-rendered 3D battles. It's not clear if the game will have any social aspects yet, but it will definitely have microtransactions as well as some manner of smartphone app.
Valkyria Chronicles Duel's official site will host the game once it's up and running, at which point it might be possible to sneak on from a Western server - provided you don't mind reading Japanese, of course. To be fair, there's nothing about this announcement that specifically rules out a Western release, but we, as a demographic, have already made our choice. Come to think of it, a Valkyria Chronicles first-person shooter would probably be pretty good; maybe we could have one of those?
This probably doesn't interest most of you, but this pisses me off so much. I love Valkyria Chronicles and I hate that Sega is keeping it out of the West and doing stupid shit with it. First Sonic, then Alpha Protocol, and then Valkyria Chronicles. They won't even release this in the west I bet.
I hate Sega.
Wow this sucks. What a waste of an awesome IP.
I normally like card battle games (well the only one I played was in Obsidian Conflict, loved that map), but this looks rather shoddy.
I'm still playing through the first one. I plan on getting a secondhand psp so I can play the second one. It's a fun game and I wish Sega would get its head out of its ass and release this shit stateside.
how about releaxing it for the 360 instead you fucking
mindboggingly

If you don't want to ruin the series for yourself, DON'T GET NUMBER 2!!!
I feel like I need to learn Japanese just to play Japanese games. There have been a ton of games over the course of my life that I have missed out on because they don't come stateside. And when they do come stateside, the dubs are fucking awful.

Not just Japanese, but you'll have to get your hands on a console from Japan; All games these days are region-locked for stupid fucking reasons.
I really liked Valkyria Chronicles despite all the dumb anime horseshit
you are in a warzone cut your fucking HAIR

For a number of consoles (e.g. the Wii) you can use homebrew to play disks from other regions. USBLoaderGX can be used to rip foreign disks, then force PAL/NTSC as needed. Would anyone like me to make a guide in general games discussion on Wii homebrew?

My wii is modded and I can play different region games on it. I'm pretty sure the xbox can be softmodded to be region free. All playstation products are already region free for games, but not for movies. So one doesn't really have to buy a console from a different region anymore.

Why?
Why?
Apparently they made it so the second one is like... "War is Fun" or something, I havent played it but that seems to be the major complaint that ruins it. But thats my stab in the dark. Its a major contrast from the Original one.
I dont get why its PSP exclusive though, A bad choice of platform. Even the Third one is PSP exclusive and that seems to fix the problem that the second one had. With it being that your commanding a "Bad Company". I think. Its more Grim than the second one i think. Yet, Sega decides not to release it outside of Japan. Dumbasses. However, there have been rumors that the game could be potentially released as a Vita title or part of a PS3 HD remaster series... Apparently.
This Browser game looks... Meh really. Sega are fucking up a good IP here.

Why would you play the game if you hate anime?
Why would you play the game if you hate anime?
The gameplay?
The gameplay?
Well, most people who hate anime would probably avoid the game.
I don't hate anime
I hate the tropes that are perpetuated in numerous animes
I was told it was somewhat akin to fire emblem and I loved the fire emblem games that's why i played it
I'm just pointing out how incredibly retarded her choice of haircut was for her job
you know who wears long hair and bright red bonnets in a war
people who get shot in the fucking head that's who

Not like their uniforms provide any camouflage. Unless grass is blue now.

Another thing that's bugged me nonstop about the setting, where the fuck are the airplanes? Did the Wright Brothers have no contemporaries in this setting or are the magic rocks that act as their phlebotinum allergic to powered flight? Seriously, they have circa WW2-era hardware; by that time we were flying nuclear-capable bombers interceptor fighters and shit.
Why?
Intro: Civil war breaks out because the religious don't like having a Darcsen(Jew) for queen. After the Main characters brother gets killed(At time unknown why). You decide to join the Academy he served at (Pretty much West Point if it was ASU) to find out how he was killed. On the World stage it has entered a Cold War and everyone is trying to make Pseudo-Valkyria Weapons to nuke each other.
Gameplay wise they shrunk it down so now you can only have 6 soldiers out at a time. Each mission consists of 1-5 areas that are no more the size of your house. Most of the missions are just the same 1-5 areas of a given zone just re organized to make the map different. It gets too claustrophobic too fast and in the large area zones that support tanks are just really, really flat
In this game you unlock your squad mates potentials by unlocking missions and skits by using them often. It boils down to you helping the female squad mates to confess their love or (perverted) secrets and finding out all of your male squad mates were dug up from under a rock.
this is essentially Fire Emblem from the looks of it.
the fuck developers, you had a good thing going.

nitpicking much?

literally the dumbest argument
nitpicking much?

There's a difference between following 100% realistic logical patterns and being stupid. I mean it's one thing to have your characters defy the laws of physics in the name of fun gameplay (for example devil may cry), but another thing when your characters all act and dress like retards for no reason (see rusty hearts for the most horrific character design and voice acting in the history of gaming)
Well that's fucking shit.
Not only did they once again push the game off of consoles, they've based the game around literally the worst combat mechanic in existence.
VC was a very unique game. I don't care for the anime elements either, but it wasn't glaring and the game itself made it much more tolerable. In fact the problem only really lies in the characters, the (base) uniform design (for the most part), weapon design, vehicle design, and world fluff are all great. All you have to do is get past the hair.

This game's setting isn't supposed to be an exact replica of real life WW2. I don't remember seeing rocket propelled grenade firing lances or women with massive laser lances in WW2. There is an airplane that [sp]Isara[/sp] was making for [sp]her brother[/sp] though.
