• Massive solar flare erupts from the sun

[release]On Wednesday, the sun produced a powerful Class X1.5 event, one of the more powerful type of flares from Sunspot 1166. This is the second such X-Class event in under a month, the last one a Class X2.2 on February 14th and was the most powerful in over four years. Wednesday's flare may bring charged particles to the planet over the next day or two. When this happens, it can disrupt satellites and power grids. Thankfully the astronauts onboard Discovery landed right on time. These flares can also spark light shows of the northern and southern lights. This event may bring them down to New York City. At times, city lights could dim the show so you'll have to head to a darker spot to see them. NOAA officials say this latest event could reach a K-7 on the planetary K-index scale, which goes from zero to nine. Simply put if measuring on the Fujita Scale, for tornadoes ... it would be be an EF4 type event. These events are rare, however NOAA expects these to continue to be more common as the sun climbs solar maximum over the next couple of years. Nature really hates us today.

X1.5 isn't that bad, there've been X20 flares in the last decade and they only caused some blackouts and after that they greatly improved the defense agaisnt such events.
Why do bad things keep happening?
whats next? Yosemite going to erupt?
It's obvious it's gonna be a repeat of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toba_catastrophe_theory !
Mother Earth isn't happy.
whats next? Yosemite going to erupt?
Hopefully Yellowstone, I have friends in California.
Hopefully Yellowstone, I have friends in California.
Yellowstone eruption will fuck all of America over and cause another ice age due to all the ash that'll be thrown out of it. Fortunately it won't be going off for a while.
Why do bad things keep happening?
Bad things happen all the time, it's just that there are lots of bad things happening today [editline]11th March 2011[/editline]
Mother Earth isn't happy.
The Sun isn't on Earth, genius
Come at me, shower of incredibly low-density, low-energy, completely harmless ion-bros.
I say we take the earth and push it somewhere else out of harms way of the sun. I can see no flaw in this plan.
Mother Earth isn't happy.
Last time i saw it, Earth wasn't the sun.
Last time i saw it, Earth wasn't the sun.
I wasnt talking about the sun. I was talking about the earthquakes and shit.
Another one?
Shit's getting really real, but i'm still not willing to believe any of this has anything to do with 2012 or whatever the cultists follow nowadays.
Shit's getting really real, but i'm still not willing to believe any of this has anything to do with 2012 or whatever the cultists follow nowadays.
This is nothing. Don't worry about it. It's just the media (also, none of the main news sites have bothered reporting this). Remember the whole animal deaths thing in early 2011? No, me neither.
Why do bad things keep happening?
Because you touch yourself at night. [editline]11th March 2011[/editline]
Shit's getting really real, but i'm still not willing to believe any of this has anything to do with 2012 or whatever the cultists follow nowadays.
How is this different than any other year? Because of media hype or something?
Does this mean I might be able to see an aurora here in the Netherlands, or did I misunderstand the article?
Well... fuck.
How is this different than any other year? Because of media hype or something?
It's not every year you get an earthquake of this magnitude followed by a solar flare.
It's not every year you get an earthquake of this magnitude followed by a solar flare.
Dear lord. The world is going to end. A big earthquake and then a solar flare. Back to back. This is so unreal, earth never experienced this. The solar system is going to implode. Blame barak.
Come at me, shower of incredibly low-density, low-energy, completely harmless ion-bros.
Your avatar just made that all the sweeter.
Well, the whole universe has gone all spectacular today, hasn't it?
We're getting sick Auroras here in Finland, could this be the cause?
