As some might remember, the first LAN that Era refrained from playing was the D2L Season 4 LAN Finals in Las Vegas, NV in January of this year. To the rest of the team, this came as a big surprise as there had been no prior indication of sickness (at the very least, Era had never mentioned this before). Our team managed to get 2nd place with two stand-ins. This feat in itself demonstrates the level of commitment and dedication we have to the game. Later that month, we participated in SLTV’s Starladder Season 8 LAN Finals in Kiev. Era did not exhibit any noticeable health issues and did not voice any concerns. We felt that things were back to normal. Fast forward to April, Dreamhack Bucharest LAN Finals. Again, Era was fully able to travel and appeared normal. However, the rest of the team was completely unaware that Era’s health condition had taken a turn for the worse. ... It is important to note that we have been in constant communication with Valve from the very beginning. We have kept them informed of our situation and Era’s recovery progress, however slow it has been. Valve consistently stated that those five players that were originally invited to play (namely, Fly, N0tail, Era, Trixi, H4nn1) remain the five players expected to be present in Seattle. Even though we understood Valve’s position, we appealed to them, stating that our circumstances were starkly different from prior roster changes, as Era’s health condition was unforeseen and has been inconsistent thus far. This is not carpal tunnel or a broken finger. Era’s health condition is psychological in nature and, if not handled correctly, can have detrimental effects extending into his adult years. This is a risk no one wants to take, least of all Era. We want to be 100% confident in Era and his condition. Nevertheless, Valve insists that the original five players play or we cannot play at all. As we approach TI4, we are at a crossroads—to play with Era without knowing if we are damaging his health, or to be disqualified. To play with Era would also mean extreme lack of preparation. We have not been practicing as the original five for some time now because of everything recounted in this post. As such, even if we were once able to perform on that level fans love and crave, we cannot reproduce this performance without practice and preparation.
Dota 2 followers may already know that Fear of Evil Geniuses' Dota team had a (non-mental) injury of his own, yet he'll still be allowed to attend as a coach (Mason will be his replacement). What is originating from Valve is pure hypocrisy. Era's condition is even WORSE than that of Fear (for EG), but they still refuse. This WILL be the next Diretide if shit does not improve soon.
I dont know the full picture on this but didn't EG give them a bunch of warning in advance but fnatic didn't. still kinda dumb reguardless

how did i skip over that :v: i even read it a few hours ago on the /r/dota2 subreddit. i would like to hear valve's side first before i play the blame game though. i think it's too late to stop a Diretide-esque event though due to mob mentality.

Title seems a bit misleading. They might not let the team play because of someone's condition not allowing them to participate. Title makes it sound like they won't let the team play because one of their team mates is mentally ill, as in they don't want mentally ill people in their tournaments.

You signed up as a team you're supposed to play as that team. You'd think that roster would include 1 or 2 subs but I guess not. And I know I'm gonna be called a dick but panic attacks making you miss 2 large tournies? Cmon now.

If N0tail isn't gonna be at TI4 then I see no reason to watch it.
Does Valve not remember that they allowed Mouz to get Kuroky as a standin almost RIGHT BEFORE the International because one of their members couldn't get a visa? Jesus, fucking hypocrites. I have complete sympathy for Era, I suffer from severe anxiety problems as well since it runs in my family and it's really tough to deal with. Best regards man <3
This WILL be the next Diretide if shit does not improve soon.
I expect Valve's statement two weeks from now after complete and total silence on the issue without even talking to Fnatic about it.

It virtually dictates your life when it's bad enough. I can't imagine pressure from tournaments would help.
I expect Valve's statement two weeks from now after complete and total silence on the issue without even talking to Fnatic about it.
They stated themselves they've been talking directly with Valve.
They stated themselves they've been talking directly with Valve.
Banned? means a counter to Fnatic's statement.
Banned? means a counter to Fnatic's statement.
Really, cause he didn't say that in the slightest. They said they have been talking with Valve directly throughout, and likely will talk about this. So what does his stupid comment even mean?
Really, cause he didn't say that in the slightest. They said they have been talking with Valve directly throughout, and likely will talk about this. So what does his stupid comment even mean?
Regardless of if they've been talking with Valve directly, the last time a shitstorm happened that was thrown at them they didn't say a fucking word for at least a week. Not even a Twitter message. There was a complete communication cutoff about the issue. Here we have an even bigger issue involving one of their directly invited teams to the largest Dota 2 tournament of the year, with the largest prize pool ever to happen in eSports. If they don't give a serious, public answer to this within 48 hours, there is going to be chaos in the community and even the pro scene and I won't be surprised if it actually happens. I mean Valve have, like they've always had, communication problems with the public and now that this has gone public, it's not going to be good for Valve to sit on their hands like they do.
I feel like this is notch vs yogscast where we each hear both singular sides of the story but not the whole story so people blindly pick sides from the agreeable one

Valve isn't saying Era can't be there, they're saying he has to be there.

What exactly was that supposed to say? Also, you do not get to set demands on how or when they respond to the issue, period. They're not under any obligations to tell the community shit at this point, so long as those directly involved in the The International are kept informed and aware. As it is nothing specifically has changed at this time, they are still invited, and it is an issue between Valve and the team.
is esports really a big enough deal for facepunch to care about it now? it seems like valves only crime here is not pandering to the super special snowflake crowd.

Maybe. See the whole Diretide thing. That is what I was referencing with the "demands" too, when Valve took a whole week in a half to think about what to say when people were demanding Diretide on Volvo's Facebook page. Yeah, the car company. I don't think you would know that though since you don't post in the Dota 2 thread and haven't been playing Dota 2 for a while anyway. It clearly few over your head like a jet. And personally, I think they are under obligation to talk to the community about it at this point. H4nn1 made this public on their side, Valve should make it public on theirs. If Fnatic gets knocked out of going to TI because of this, a ton of people who bought tickets just to see Fnatic play are going to be pissed. People really like Fnatic, not just because they're a top team but they have some fantastic personalities and they've been the most stable Dota 2 lineup since their formation.
is esports really a big enough deal for facepunch to care about it now? it seems like valves only crime here is not pandering to the super special snowflake crowd.
People are mostly upset because Mason is replacing Fear, even though it was Fear that got invited, and Kuroky being a standin with Mouz, and now they're telling Fnatic that if Era can't make it then the team will disqualified. People just don't think it's fair, which in all honesty, it isn't.

Mason is standing in for Fear while Fear recovers from tennis elbow, KuroKy stood in for Mouz at TI2 when ComeWithMe couldn't get a visa in time, which was also very last minute.
is esports really a big enough deal for facepunch to care about it now? it seems like valves only crime here is not pandering to the super special snowflake crowd.
Go fuck yourself. It's not anybody's fault that they have any kind of mental disorder, you piece of shit. Nobody's being a "special snowflake" here. Also if people weren't big on "esports" here, there wouldn't be a section for Dota 2. And besides, if you go into any big thread about a multiplayer game on FP, you'll see tons of people in the competitive scene. Anyway, although I'm not big on MOBAs in general, I hope Fnatic's team will be allowed to play with a replacement and that Era can finish up with recovery.
is esports really a big enough deal for facepunch to care about it now?
it seems like valves only crime here is not pandering to the super special snowflake crowd.
There's a difference between Tumblr "Self-diagnosed" Snowflake bullshit and actual medical conditions.

Are they not allowed to sign up a substitute or two? I mean, I can see why they'd allow a team who gets denied a Visa a substitute, but someone who claims to be suffering from a mental disorder? What I mean is, mental disorders don't seem to be an issue in main stream sports, so if esports is becoming mainstream, maybe some people aren't cut out for it?
