[release]A blizzard of House amendments aimed at cutting $100 billion from the federal budget included one from Rep. Steve Womack, an Arkansas Republican, to cut funding for President Obama's beloved teleprompter.
Womack told Fox News that it's about tough love: "We're asking people to do more with less. And I think the president ought to lead by example. He is already a very gifted speaker. And I think that's one platform he could do without," Womack said.
The teleprompter! The TOTUS. Obama relies on it probably more than he relies on Bill Daley. It has its own blog (updated quarterly, but still). It's probably making a deputy chief of staff salary. When Obama leaves office, it's likely to be memorialized on The Mall. There are some things you just don't mess with, and the TOTUS is sacred and inviolable. These House Republicans!
Womack later pulled his amendment from consideration, saying he couldn't get a read on how much it would save.
"I think we made our point," Womack said.[/release]
Man I'm so glad we can have an adult conversation about the deficit.
aaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAA

i am rebelling against my understanding of the english language. this is just a suggested bill about tax forms. it sure is nice that he wants to revise the w-9
God why would you even bring something up as stupid as that?
To make a ham-fisted point.
So, they're not even really trying to find ways to cut the deficit, they're just being little shits.
Who the hell thought it was a good idea to vote these people in.
I intend to introduce a bill that would rename the Democratic Party to the "Jerk Store". The removed 6 letters would save untold tens of cents in ink, which would then be passed on to the american people. I'm sure the president can understand and would be happy to make this change :smug:
Funding for the... teleprompter? Am I the only one who's thinking $8 in electricity savings?
Welcome to the new Congress.
Remove his teleprompter so we can make fun of his mistkaes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I find that having a teleprompter is better than having them stop every few seconds to look at their speech paper.
And yet, if it was Bush or Palin using the Teleprompter every time and focusing too much on it, the Republicans would try to protect it, and yell at the Democrats for trying to remove funding towards it.
How I love politics and this congress. [sp]/sarcasm[/sp]

Yeah that actually happened plenty of times while bush was in office.
It's the whole reason people got picky with Obama making mistakes, they were butthurt over Bush being called out on his HUGE mistakes and inappropriate ad-libs. Now morons get all "SEE? HE CAN'T SPEAK!" when Obama pauses for a second.

Because nothing else is involved with it? It just updates everything by itself, no one has to back the thing to actually get letters on it? That is a paid salary for something that doesn't need to be paid for. I am assuming that is the issue.
Sure it isn't going to fix much, but Obama has a guy writing his speeches, then has a guy put them on this thing? That is paying twice, when he could just have the guy write it and be done.
And before I am attacked relentlessly by a bunch of people who can't vote. I honestly don't care about this issue, I am merely making a side note on the subject.
Even if there is one specific person who is paid to do that one job(it is probably an intern's job anyways), it would still cost less than $1000 a month to upkeep.

I like the facepalm in the back.
I'm sure the president of the US has better things to do than spend more than a single (or perhaps two) readings of a speech before delivering it
I don't even know what the fuck is going on with this people any more.
I read the title as Obama's Teleporter

-Everybody uses a teleprompter
-The salary of a presidential speechwriter is insurmountably higher than the salary of the aide who types it into a teleprompter
-Presidential speeches are printed and passed around to be examined by White House staffers (including the President) for days before the speech is given, so you can't just "type it into the teleprompter"
-Teleprompters are not designed for word processing, composing a speech on one would be a huge pain in the ass
-It sounds like you are saying the president should spend his time memorizing speeches instead of running the country
For the record, I can vote, but maybe you shouldn't?
Goddammit, why don't they stop diddling around like a bunch of toddlers and do something fucking useful
Honestly, those House Republicans should be kicked out, and if they resist, slap them round the face with a burning broadsword. Several times. That'll keep them out of the Garden.
I think America would be quite a bit better if the Republicans were erased from history.
I'm gonna suggest an amendment to the budget, cuts to the supply of oxygen to the republican party
or perhaps making use of all the hot air they produce and put it into generating electricity.

Nothing makes the base happier than this useless shit.
Go to the Fox Nation website sometime and read the comments on a story about something like this; it's quite enlightening.

are you saying that you hate black people because Abraham Lincoln was a republican you racist

Dumb Republicans, you're just jealous.
And to think all of our problems could be solved by administering IQ tests to everybody who runs for congress.
dump the house GOP, nobody ever gets anything done with a different party in the house than in senate and power
[editline]19th February 2011[/editline]
it's always hurr durr lets discredit the president instead of doing our jobs helping the american people.
for the record, it goes both ways. if senate and power were republican and house was democrat, I'd be saying the same thing
