Two British soldiers have been shot dead at a checkpoint in Afghanistan by a man wearing a local police uniform, the Ministry of Defence has said. The soldiers were both from 1st Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles. They were killed in Nahr-e Saraj in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday. Their families have been informed. At least 11 of the 43 British dead in Afghanistan this year have been killed by Afghans they served alongside. This compares to one in 2011, three in 2010 and five in 2009. More than 50 international personnel have been killed so far this year by Afghans wearing police or army uniforms. Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Maj Laurence Roche, said: "I am saddened to report the deaths of two soldiers from 1st Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles who were shot and killed by a man wearing an Afghan police uniform at a checkpoint in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province. "The loss of these soldiers is a huge blow to The Royal Gurkha Rifles and everyone serving in Task Force Helmand. Our thoughts are with their families, friends and fellow Gurkhas at this time." Damian Collins, Conservative MP for Folkestone and Hythe, where the Gurkha regiment is based, told the BBC: "It is terrible news and everyone in Folkestone will be saddened to hear it. "The Gurkhas are very much part of our community. We are very proud of the work they have done on a number of tours of duties of Afghanistan since the war, and we will be united in our grief and sense of loss." The Taliban said the killer was now safe with them after having infiltrated the Afghan police. Gen Gunter Katz, Nato's International Security Assistance Force (Isaf), said the gunman was trying to flee the area but he was being pursued by Isaf forces and Afghan national security forces. He added: "It is very clear that nobody is able to put a wedge between the Isaf forces and the Afghan forces and our campaign will not be affected by those incidents."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-20138614 Sick of seeing these things, just bring them home!
Should have left the police to themselves long ago. It's getting to the point that I reckon the MOD isn't thinking about the troops anymore. RIP.
I don't want to sound like an ass, but lots of people die in war. And as bad as I feel about two people dying, it's not really news worthy. I mean what about all the other soldiers in Afghanistan that died, where are their news stories? It just doesn't make sense to shed light on two soldiers rather than the many more.

Like they do with all deaths during the wars.
"The loss of these soldiers is a huge blow to The Royal Gurkha Rifles and everyone serving in Task Force Helmand."
A huge blow? I'm sorry, but two people isn't a huge blow in the slightest compared to past wars.

Those men probably just lost two of their best friends who they trusted to have their backs and have been around since they began their tour. Can you not read?
A huge blow? I'm sorry, but two people isn't a huge blow in the slightest compared to past wars.
Not all wars are relative.

It is sad two men died without a chance to defend themselves, and what happen also under minds the military as a whole.

People tend to forget that governments have quite lot of control over media, they definitely don't let the folks run around making articles as much anymore after Vietnam happened. These days they can only photograph dead civilians, insurgents and rebels. But dead NATO troops are somehow a big no-no, like everyone else aren't worth shit.
I meant that every single time one dies theres a news report about them
There is.
I meant that every single time one dies theres a news report about them
There is a news report on the BBC every time a British soldier dies. I don't know what else to say. I can't tell if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me.
Soldiers are probably really on edge around Afghan soldiers and police now.
