• I entered a cover of a song I did on Youtube into a contest and I need some help! (BMTH)

My cover for It Never Ends by Bring Me The Horizon is entered into a contest, and I'm very close to making the top 3. If any of you could take a minute to "like" my video, it'd make a huge difference! I believe I'm only 10 likes behind making the top 3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjkPMm2dHJQ Oh, and they don't take dislikes into consideration. I realize BMTH is a very well hated band, but if your gonna take a minute to "dislike" the video, just know it isn't going to damage my standings in the contest! :) EDIT: If you previously tried viewing the video only to have it blocked, it should be working now! It's 100% public again :)
:frog: Damn WMG copyrights! I'm a pretty big fan of BMTH so I would quite like to see it but I can't. Did you do a vocal cover? If so, Oli has a very unique voice so I'd like to see how you handled that.
Spam more. Also, WMG-blocked :S
I liked it for you even though your right hand technique annoys me.

You have a weird and inconsistent technique, swapping between anchoring your whole hand and only moving your thumb and index finger to pick, and sticking out your other 3 fingers at other times and it just looks really rigid. You need to relax.
I can't see your video, but that vocal cover is pretty cool.
lol your picking technique is horrendous and this band/song sucks

You need to relax.
Anchoring never looks pretty, the other three fingers just end up where they end up. When your galloping away, you need to control your other fingers. I know this song doesn't seem too difficult, but my hand has developed this way from playing tougher songs, such as Trivium, where it's all about speed in the picking hand - the last thing you want are your other three fingers dangling away. As for the way I pick the string, again it may seem rigid, but it allows me to play consistently. Anyhow, last time I checked, there isn't a correct "picking method", you just do what works for you. I find my technique very comfortable, especially for standing up.
lol your picking technique is horrendous and this band/song sucks
How is it horrendous? Want to show me the "superior" way of picking? Last time I checked, my picking method is pretty efficient, seeing as it allows me to easily switch between strumming and single note picking/palm muting/alternate picking. I'd love to see you play this song and show me your super awesome way of picking.
Your pick angle seems a bit weird, dunno how to explain it, but: ----/----- it kinda looks like you're picking down like that during some galloping bits and your whole arm looks kinda rigid at those moments, doesn't it make you tired or something? I'm probably the last guy to give advice on technique though, I've haven't had many lessons.
Well despite how weird it may look, I find it very comfortable. When I was picking single notes I don't really pay attention to where my hand ends up, as long as it's on the guitar. The only two fingers I pay attention to are the ones holding the pick. And like I mentioned before, it's great on stage/standing up, as your hand is stuck in one position, which allows you to not have to stand as still as a statue. Some people that bridge their hand like to curl their fingers sort of like a fist, others like to have the middle finger sticking out. I've spent a ton of time on Youtube watching guitar covers, and I've noticed that no two guitarists hold the pick the same way. If you want to see a better example of how my technique is beneficial, watch this cover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45w1JqZV-fU
But isn't it extremely hard to do pinch harmonics that way?
I'll only vote for it if it's better, not because your asking me to vote for yours. [editline]17th November 2010[/editline] OK, I like it, i'll give it a thumbs up.
Liked, you got talent.

lol [editline]18th November 2010[/editline] you're thinking of sickjits
nah you do a better job than him you're more consistent
nah you do a better job than him you're more consistent
I dunno I can't find any redeeming qualities to him...or that Gnome dude... Vedicardi at least has some valid opinions and CAN be agreeable. Good point Vedicardi contributes to things that he actually enjoys, Sickjits was just amazingly funny to watch as he challenged people to fight in random threads and them bawwed and looked for sympathy when his bass stuff was stolen because he left it in his garage or some shit. But back to the issue at hand. OP, picking techniques and whether I like the band or not aside, here's a like for effort I hope you win
Don't worry OP, he's our resident music section prick
I'm nominating you for this position [editline]18th November 2010[/editline] also I don't really like the music but I liked the vid just to help a brotha out
Thanks for that bro
Thanks for the feedback guys. I was expecting this thread to go to shit because, you know, it's BMTH. Maybe I'll post some future covers here, of some better bands to say the least. I'm more of a metal fan at heart. And on another matter, do you think it's possible for some person on Facepunch to file the video under a copyright claim, thus getting it restricted by the WMG? This happened to my video as soon as I posted it on Facepunch, despite having the cover up since August. I'm thinking someone tried to sabotage the video? I'm only suspicious because other covers of the exact same song have not been restricted. As of right now, the video is banned in over 100 countries. I'm not sure how to go about fixing this..

[editline]18th November 2010[/editline] within youtube's interface that is, you can try what solidsnake suggested
It needs more crab core.
I got some help from another guitarist on Youtube who ran into the same problems. There's a place where you can claim your cover is under "Fair Use" of some law. So basically you can dispute that your video isn't doing anything illegal. There's a correct way of going about this, which he explained to me in detail..so if anyone runs into this problem (it could apply to montages, or any other video with a song by a popular band in it) let me know, I'd be happy to try and help :)

Especially with this online counterfitting/infringement act being disputed TODAY (in America at least), you don't want anything that you can be bitched at over. Fair use claim, plus full credit to the original artist and copyright owners will guarantee you are absolved of any and all potential trouble.
For sure, I gave credit in the description. But I also disputed, and sure enough, my cover is 100% public! It only took about an hour. I'm honestly surprised this worked so smoothly. I'm going to go through my covers and properly credit each band, and each label. Never hurts to be too safe. Thanks again.
They're not going to sue a 17 year old or something
They're not going to sue a 17 year old or something
You would be amazed what the RIAA would do. They love to crucify easy targets just to scare people into doing whatever they want.
