A California District Court sided with Electronic Arts and has ordered the U.S. Department of Commerce Patent and Trademark Office to cancel a series of trademarks registered by Tim Langdell and Edge Games, Inc. covering the word "edge," according to legal documents filed online. Langdell claimed in a series of lawsuits that the trademarks, which covered "The Edge," (patent 3,599,342) "Gamer's Edge," (3,381,826) "Edge" (3,105,816), "Cutting Edge" (2,251,584) and "Edge" (2,219,837) entitled him to injunctions and damages for trademark infringement by games like Electronic Arts Mirror's Edge, GamesIndustry.biz reported. According to the legal documents online, EA filed its Consolidated Petition for Cancelation for the patents above on Sept. 11, 2009. A document filed yesterday, April 17, 2013, referring to Cancellation No. 92051465, confirms the cancelation of each patent by the Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office by order of the United States District Court of the Northern District of California, San Francisco Division. Today, April 18, 2013, the court received a Letter of Protest from Langdell in his capacity as CEO of Edge Games objecting to the issuance of "a notice canceling" the trademarks. To celebrate the ruling, Mobigame has discounted its puzzle game, Edge. Langdell also filed suit against the company for the game, which was temporarily removed from the iOS App Store in 2010. "It took us two years to create Edge from scratch, then we waited four additional years for this day to happen," Mobigame's David Papazian wrote on Two Tribes' website. "This story represent six years of our lives but now the road is totally clear for Edge. We are so happy for all the victims of this trademark troll, truth and justice finally won! We feel that we have to celebrate this major event in some ways, and we hope all the good people we met along the road will celebrate with us."
Source. No matter your opinion of EA at the moment, this is a good thing regardless. EA wasn't the first target by Tim Langdell.
Can they please make Mirror's Edge 2 now?
Can they please make Mirror's Edge 2 now?
That's probably the first game I'd be majorly hyped for in the last two years.
Can they please make Mirror's Edge 2 now?
No. Ea would ruin the franchise with a shitty sequel
No. Ea would ruin the franchise with a shitty sequel
They did a good fuckin job with the original
They did a good fuckin job with the original
???
They did a good fuckin job with the original
that was back when they weren't shit they would add shitty DRM, social features, shitty perk-based multiplayer, they'd dumb down the free running and put in too many tacticool gunfighting segments. All with a ~dramatic and gritty~ campaign mode that a whole 3 hours long.
All with a ~dramatic and gritty~ campaign mode that a whole 3 hours long.
I beat mirrors edge my first time through in under 4 hours. Doesn't seem like much of a change.
Can they please make Mirror's Edge 2 now?
DICE is too busy with Battlefield 4, DLC, and Battlefield 5. Probably a new Medal of Honor too. Odds of that is never to unlikely.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind if Mirror's Edge 2 had some DLC missions and levels, IF they manage to make a good 8-10 hour story for the actual game. Really what made Mirror's Edge so fun for me was playing the cool levels over and over to get better and better times.

Holy hell, this only just now got resolved? Didn't this start like 3 years ago?
wow thanks, i didn't know that EA developed their games instead of their developers!!!
I don't think it is unrealistic that EA replaces developers of their teams with their own, slowly
I don't think it is unrealistic that EA replaces developers of their teams with their own, slowly
EA doesn't really have in-house development teams, so what you're saying is just dumb skepticism. You realize that development teams can be fucking morons that make bad choices too, right? EA isn't some evil dictatorship that slowly "converts" teams. Activision does that :V
another meaningful thing a dice dev that will be overlooked because people are going to stick to their belief that dice is a slave-dev that is being forced to making BF4 into a microtransaction fest with pandering, brown and bloom, and casual gaming.
Well, they are owned by EA. They play by EA's rules. If they're told to make Battlefield games and DLC, then god damn it they will if they don't want to be shut down or have mass layoffs. If this was a contractual developer it would be a different story.
That's probably the first game I'd be majorly hyped for in the last two years.
If they ever make a Mirror's Edge 2 they better have Solar Fields do the soundtrack again

hng

Where's the multiplayer? [editline]19th April 2013[/editline] I wish EA would actually learn with the immense bad publicity it has been subject to recently. I mean most companies when met with customer complaints actually try and improve on those parts to please more customers, but EA just runs their own race and don't give a slightest fuck about doing things that can come back to bite them in the ass.
My hatred for EA is surpassed only for my hatred of patent trolls. So this is a good thing.
making BF4 into a microtransaction fest with pandering, brown and bloom, and casual gaming.
you mean like what they did to bf3?
