The doctor, Craig Spencer, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital on Thursday and placed in isolation while health care workers spread out across the city to trace anyone he might have come into contact with in recent days. A further test will be conducted by the federal Centers for Disease Control to confirm the initial test. While officials have said they expected isolated cases of the disease to arrive in New York eventually, and had been preparing for this moment for months, the first case highlighted the challenges surrounding containment of the virus, especially in a crowded metropolis.
Aw shit.
for fuck sake
I don't think people should panic over cases in the US. So far, the infected people are those who are treating Ebola patients, not just some bystanders as the grocery store.

Subway. Bowling. NYC. The amount of people he may have been in contact with is ridiculous.
It's kinda scary to think that all it takes is one idiot coughing his way through a crowded sidewalk.
It's kinda scary to think that all it takes is one idiot coughing his way through a crowded sidewalk.
Ebola isn't airborne.
Subway. Fuck. I was scared of it reaching cities like ny and cali...
Can't they detect the disease through a blood test before it shows symptoms or what? I can't believe that with a disease this dangerous, they're this negligent with people who are at risk of carrying the disease, for example people coming from the affected areas.
He also went bowling so expect a few more people to strike out.
They were just having a bloody good time there [sp]get it, bloody?[/sp] [sp]i'll just go leave now[/sp]
He also went bowling so expect a few more people to strike out.
Did he vomit on the bowling balls? Did he get blood on them? Because if the answer is no, then everyone is fine.
It's kinda scary to think that all it takes is one idiot coughing his way through a crowded sidewalk.
Not unless he's coughing blood directly on your face.
Whose to say he didn't sneeze in his hand and put his hand on a guard rail or a seat? People have low disregard for their hygiene and NYC Subways are filthy. Someone could have easily touched the same thing he touched or even a bowling ball.
Unless he is lying and he was showing symptoms while bowling, any sneezes he may have done would be harmless.
It's kinda scary to think that all it takes is one idiot coughing his way through a crowded sidewalk.
Coughing isn't even a common symptom of Ebola. + All the things people have said before me about not being airborne etc. (Fluid droplets also have to be a certain size to transmit the virus, and then it has to come in contact with mucous membranes to infect someone new. It also can't survive more than a few hours in saliva.) [editline]24th October 2014[/editline]
Unless he is lying and he was showing symptoms while bowling, then his sneezes should have been no more likely to cause ebola than anybody elses..
Sneezing isn't a symptom of Ebola either.
Subway. Bowling. NYC. The amount of people he may have been in contact with is ridiculous.
If he was symptomatic at these public venues, there is still not a large risk. The CDC reports that to contract Ebola from a symptomatic person, you must have direct contact not just close contact. The amount of liquid expelled in coughs and sneezes isn't large enough to carry and transmit Ebola virus, by the way.
Health-care worker who was monitoring himself for symptoms, supposedly reported when he got them, escorted and isolated and contact-tracing was started before preliminary test was confirmed. And people will still buy into the panic. I would be more worried about first confirmed case in Mali ( 2-year old baby ), although that and contacts were isolated rather quickly. The health-system there really sucks though and literacy is low. The population density is rather low though.
Oh god he probably fucked the bowling balls we're screwed
I'm a little surprised anyone who worked with Ebola patients was allowed to return to New York and not be under at least partial isolation for a couple of weeks. Anyway, not worried. It sounds like the system is working, and hopefully the Bellevue people are better at infection control than those clueless hicks in Texas that let two of their nurses get infected.
Subway. Bowling. NYC. The amount of people he may have been in contact with is ridiculous.
He did that without symptoms. The potential for spread during these times is close to zero.
Ebola? Panic? Contagious disease? PANIC! Lakeland Industries Inc. Medical Instruments & Supplies +15% http://stocktwits.com/symbol/LAKE Time to get rich off panic :V
Well clearly Ebola is being played by an amatuer. You are supposed to infect everyone without symptoms and then evolve Coma and Organ Failure.
meh
This is a meaningful post, thank you
i dont understand why ebola cases are still being reported on no one here seriously believes ebola's a problem at all do they??

I'm almost assuredly wrong, there's so much misinfo going around
I don't think people should panic over cases in the US. So far, the infected people are those who are treating Ebola patients, not just some bystanders as the grocery store.
While the method of transmission for this virus is limited(blood or short range sneezes) the fact that the incubation period is 2-21 days, with most people developing symptoms more than 2 days after exposure. It still isn't something to take lightly. [editline]24th October 2014[/editline]
Ebola isn't airborne. FFS NOT AGAIN The media will overhype this as fuck
If someone is showing early symptoms but still feels ok enough to go out, sneezing can still spread infected particles.
Not necessarily. Not all particles are sufficient to carry Ebola, plus the reason why it starts infecting after symptoms is because the virus buildup is becoming large. The worse the symptoms, the more contagious the person is. Remember that in general ( as in in Africa ), one patient infects 1.7 other people during their disease.
