KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - NATO and Afghan troops have killed a top Taliban commander for southern Afghanistan's largest city, NATO forces said Friday. The allied forces had been tracking Mullah Zergay for several weeks and launched an assault to capture him at a safe house in Zhari district of Kandahar province last week, NATO said in a statement. The raid sparked a gunbattle, and Zergay was killed in the fighting along with several of his guards. NATO called Zergay "the top Taliban commander" for the area around Kandahar city, saying he was responsible for attacks in both Argandab and Zhari districts. Resident generally saw Zergay as one of a small group of leaders who oversaw Taliban operations in and around the city. He was known for bomb attacks and NATO says he was "directly responsible for multiple deaths in Kandahar city alone."
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37508290/ns/world_news-south_and_central_asia/ :/ I have to stop posting news articles now. I think i'm making too many in one day.
no keep going, prismatex needs competition
The more targeted attacks the better. Even if he wan't the top dog, he was still someone semi important and that shows progress.
Good work, boys.
another will just pop up
No I won't ... Err. he won't.
This thread is now about deathmongs post speed.
Consider the Taliban's decentralized structure, another guy's just gonna fill his post.
nato is a cool name for an organization
The more targeted attacks the better. Even if he wan't the top dog, he was still someone semi important and that shows progress.
It gives the illusion of progress. Really we have no idea if we are making progress or not. We always hear on the news "Taliban commanders killed". Does it really matter? Was that commander really very valuable? The way I see it is that the only real benefit from killing commanders and "officers" is to demoralize them, but that doesn't seem like it would help much with an organization like the Taliban. However, constantly attacking them does help keep them on the defense. They won't have the ability to attack us with any power if they can't get off defense.

I wish Sweden joined NATO

Taliban commanders are rarely killed. What you always hear about however, is high value targets like this guy getting away, because the ANA is full of fucking rats and leak operational information before it even started.

It is incredibly common. [editline]07:58AM[/editline] Shit, I practically filter it out whenever I watch the news because it is so fucking common.
The regions the NATO forces are operating in are vast and there are quite a few people operating against them. The article makes a point of what he was responsible for, and what his death might have an effect on. It doesn't say the war was instantaneously won, it says a Commander in the Taliban was killed.
