OCEAN SHORES, Wash. -- An Ocean Shores couple caught breaking into a home brought their children to as many as four other recent burglaries in the beach community, police said.
Police said the couple gave their children stolen jewelry to take to school.
An off-duty officer noticed his neighbor's door open Thursday and scared off a woman, identified as Carleen Bernhard. She was soon stopped and admitted the burglary to officers, who also arrested her husband, Nicholas Kell, police said.
Police said officers recovered a large amount of stolen electronics and other property, including jewelry that was being worn by the couple's children.
"They have no respect for anything," said Kevin Roberts, a victim. "How do people like this have children that they would come and teach them something like this? It's beyond belief."
Shaun Beebe of the Ocean Shores Police Department said the couple's actions were "despicable."
"You don't take your kids to a burglary. It is not a field trip," Beebe told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.
Kell denied any wrongdoing, saying, "My kids never went anywhere with me, ever."
Bernhard said she brought their children.
"I screwed up," she said.
Detectives are working to get stolen items back to their rightful owners.
The children are being cared for by their grandparents.
Stupid people...
looks like their kids got stolen from them
What the hell? Why would you bring your children with you while robbing houses? Why would you even rob houses while parenting children in the first place?

Probably to make them seem more innocent.
They'd rob it to get money to raise the kids. Children are fucking expensive, bro.

Seems less innocent and more exploitative to me when you don't just rob house but actually bring your children along when you do so.

They are merely introducing their children to their future profession, what's wrong with that?
It's homeschooling, teaching the kids something useful.
Nothing beats on the job training.
Teaching them the family business
