The new stage musical “Rocky,” an adaptation of the Oscar-winning film about a streetwise boxer from Philadelphia, is coming to Broadway next year, with preview performances set to begin in February at the Winter Garden Theater, the lead producers announced on Sunday. The show – conceived by Sylvester Stallone, who wrote and starred in the original “Rocky” – had its world premiere opening in Hamburg in November and received positive reviews from German theater critics for its gritty realism and inventively staged boxing sequences. That production cost about $20 million, a sum that included years of development expenses; the Broadway version is expected to cost about $15 million, according to Bill Taylor of Stage Entertainment USA, which is producing “Rocky” on Broadway with Mr. Stallone.
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/04/28/rocky-musical-is-heading-to-broadway/ well okay [editline]who cares[/editline] whoa, it says i'm using xp but i'm not

That actually sounds awesome.
Still not as weird as the concept of an Evil Dead musical.

If the critics say it's good, it's probably good.
How is this weird? I don't know if you guys realize this but the first rocky film was a character drama, not a "boxing" film. It wasn't until the sequels that it became an over the top series.
They should hire El Chombo to play Rocky.
I want a Deus Ex musical next plz.
We already have a Rocky musical in Germany :D I've never been there though, but I heard that it was awesome
would go and see
Still not as weird as the concept of an Evil Dead musical.
I think the Klingon Christmas Carol is stranger than anything i've ever seen.
Hope it's gonna be like this
I would rather see rocky on ice, the stair scene would be interesting
I want a Deus Ex musical next plz.
I can't wait to hear the hit that exploded onto the scene, "It's a bomb!"
I want a Deus Ex musical next plz.
It kind-of exists. Ish. Not very cyberpunk, but deals with augmentation and crime.
I want a Deus Ex musical next plz.
I'm ready for the show-stopping number "I thought you were a GEP gun."
This sounds awesome. Musicals can be more badass than people give them credit for.
i am so stoked for this!
If eye of the tiger isn't included I will shit fury.
Should have called it "eye of the tiger"
This could work. There is an Evil Dead musical. It's also the first musical with a splash zone.
How about something new and creative? Reminds me of Spiderman on broadway.
How about something new and creative? Reminds me of Spiderman on broadway.
The world of theater is a slow moving one my friend, it can take years, hell decades for a group, writer or performer to be considered with any kind of legitimacy or credibility in the mainstream of the theater community. Musicals have that issue plus the problem of money, but then what creative production doesn't have that these days anyway? And of course the 'Jazz Hands' patrol. You may be able to make write a musical that gains astounding critical appeal and is cheap as chips but if its not glitter and FAAAAAABULOUS! Even if you get them in they are hardly going to leave buzzing after it if its not sweet like sugar and its them who are the king makers in all this, the ones who will spread the word and re-watch it with friends. The Theater world is a muggy place at the best of times, other times its hell. But you've got to look at the bright-side on such things. At least I'm not in Musical Theater!!
GONNA FLY NOW
But Rocky has the voice of an angel, I think Jim Carrey should play the role since his voice is just stunning in this rendition:
I'm still waiting for planet of the apes.
