Case in point: a newly granted Apple patent for a "mini-SIM connector." The design complements earlier work and represents a straightforward approach to a SIM slot that prevents damage from inserting the card the wrong way and ejects the card through a plunger system. By securing the patent, however, Apple gains a bargaining chip in phone technology disputes, especially for SIM-related tussles; companies are less likely to start a fight if Apple can return fire. The claim doesn't give Apple a lock on subscriber modules by any means, but it could lead to other adopters treading carefully.
At least it's not utterly underspecified to the point it's laughable. This is at least a bit specific, and patents a method rather than an entire idea
It's a annoying idea anyway.
really all they patented is a thing where you can have a slot in the side and push a paperclip into a hole and it comes out rather than the tray method
Is the laughing guy actually part of the patent?
Did you actually read the article before you posted it? It's not for a SIM slot, it's for a system that ejects and protects mis-inserted SIMs.
It's actually something useful this time around.
If you read it and don't just read the title there's nothing wrong with what they're doing. As long as they don't patent SIM trays.
I actually looked at the design previous and though that yeah, that's a pretty cool way of doing it.
That fucking picture of the guy laughing. I lol'd so hard for some reason.
Is the laughing guy actually part of the patent?
It's from a sony patent for laughter detection
Yeah, how dare they make a legitimate patent
Better yet people: USE YOUR BRAINS. But I guess it'll be something new.
It's from a sony patent for laughter detection
always-on camera detecting facial expressions, microphone listening for cues, taking record of emotion with timestamps that's more than mildly concerning
always-on camera detecting facial expressions, microphone listening for cues, taking record of emotion with timestamps that's more than mildly concerning
I'm actually more concerned about the program shown on the TV.
Do they just have a group of researchers with a complete focus on patenting?
D'aww, Apple is finally learning.
always-on camera detecting facial expressions, microphone listening for cues, taking record of emotion with timestamps that's more than mildly concerning
If it's opt-in there's nothing wrong with the idea at all. It could easily be used by producers to work out what works in their shows without using test cases and studio audiences.
It's from a sony patent for laughter detection
Why is he laughing while TV man gets anally raped?
really all they patented is a thing where you can have a slot in the side and push a paperclip into a hole and it comes out rather than the tray method
uh this is on the nexus 4.
uh this is on the nexus 4.
No, every unibody phone uses a SIM tray, this doesn't.
I came here to rant about apple what is this i guess i have no place here
I think the title should be edited as it is highly misleading but then again it is sensationalist headlines
From what I'm reading they're patenting a completely different type of SIM slot because its a smaller size, it has some weird eject system and stops you from putting it in upside down. No fanboy thats just what it says, yo.
Why is he laughing while TV man gets anally raped?
Looks like a normal Japanese game show to me
Was expecting an anti-Apple rage fest. Finds out it's actually a legitimate patent this time. So you're learning something right Apple?
Is this... Really something important? I mean it's a SIM slot. You put the sim in and in vast majority of cases, you don't take it out until you change the phone. And in most cases, incorrect insertion is prevented physically. Even the nano SIM has a corner cut off for that.
Stop hating of Apple...

People get all mad and start posting More traffic for their site thanks to the rants/hate towards Apple. More money generated from rants/hate Ciiiiircle of liiiiife
