Well, I'm back with some paintings, now with more Oil!

So I've taken up a class of oil painting, just still life for now, but I'm lookin for some workshop hours so I can find some nude figure painting. I've never really painted with oils before, or mainly any paints IRL. Actually, I've used acrylics before, when I was like 7 playing around splashin shit everywhere.
Anyways, here's the first oil painting I've ever done:

We were limited to a black/white color palette, I was quite surprised that it didn't look like shit. The box I like, but the underside of the Jar, doesn't sit down right though. :\

Here is the second painting I've ever done, now with a full palette available except for black:

Really turned on by the ways of that lemon :smug:
Can't say the same about the retarded lookin red bottle.

3rd Painting, same palette as above:

It doesn't look bad, but I'm a little disappointed that I didn't improve that much from the previous one.
----------------
and here's what I just finished, it's due for tomorrow mornings class, we are supposed to have 50% of our still life painting done, and no more than 50%, so this is what I've got so far:

He said we shouldn't do metals, because apparently we are no more smarter than an ape with oil grease as paint, so we will somehow fuck it up :v:, and he doesn't want that :P so we just have to paint them down as dull, matte blocks/cylinder shapes.
That's pretty cool.
Are the edges really that hard to keep straight?
were' going to do oil sometime as well in our art club.
Your skill is good, but your art is boring to watch.
I guess they are just training stuff right?

I guess when you are learing the techniques (Oils are hard to master) you'll need some simple, slightly boring shapes that are fairly easy to make and don't require much thought.
The more thought you put behind a painting's message and construction, the more disappointed you'll get if you don't feel satisfied with the result.

That's why I asked if he drew them for training.
Thumbs up for painting a still life instead of taking a photo and copying that, which is a lot easier...

Yeah, well for now I have some trouble keeping different contrasting tones from smudging and blending together, so for now it's goin to have a loose feel to it. :p

Well yeah, I'm not forming any real creative stuff here because I'm still learning the medium, basic objects first, and then as I mentioned in the OP, lookin for some more interesting workshops to actually paint with once I've gotten the hang of this. :d

Definitely true.

Yeah, it's easier, plus if you use a crappy camera, it'll mess up your skills, seeing as how most cameras kind of warp the perspective from what the eyes actually see.
My art anatomy teacher was a bad ass, he could tell who was doing their homeworks based on life references and photo references just by looking at the perspective of the pieces.
For someone who just started with oils you done great. I only tried them once and realised I was destined to stick with Microsoft paint.
I had to stare at the last picture for a long while to figure out the mask was part of the painting, and not a cut-out 3D item.

Thx, didn't think it was that good lookin though :p

Thanks buddy.
This makes me want to post my oil paintings now.
Willing to buy some off you when your class doesn't need em'.
I'm loving your speculars, even if your subject matter is pretty uninspiring; good job!
I like it, keep going.
I'm looking forward to see you paint some anatomy.
Thanks guys, OP here, got some more.

Here's the kinda finished version of that mask painting. Got lazy with everything other than the mask.

Just another boring still life.

Next week we have some workshops open with some live nudes, I'll try to attend if the schedule doesn't conflict with my classes.
They are pretty good, how much time did it took to make each of these?
I like the attempt at glass, it seems rather realistic.. But I think it lacks hard edges are the top left of the jug.
Your finished mask painting is truly impressive! I really like how you managed the colours. I'm no good with oils so I definitely couldn't do any better.
Finally managed to get into a nude painting class, here's one of my first results,
a little over 6 hours of work:
