• The hate against "bronies," the unexpected fandom of My Little Pony

Oh boy, where to start without setting off a flame war.... I just simply don't understand it. Bronies are people, like you, and you, and you too. They sit at a computer, they live in a house, they breathe the same air, eat the same food, I just simply don't get it. I personally am a brony, and have had a great time watching the show. It's a ray of light in a society full of hatred and disgrace, so to speak. Most bronies are very nice, very tolerant, and are good people. I cannot speak on behalf of the vocal minority, who normally start flame wars in YouTube comments. Simply put, bronies are normal. We aren't pedophiles, we're not homosexuals, we don't wank to horses doing it, we're not neckbeards, we don't live in our parents' basement, so on and so forth. So, what is your opinion on bronies and the hate towards them? Is it justified? Is it baseless? This isn't really a debate. There aren't any facts to draw from, just opinions and stereotypes.
all the bronies i've seen don't understand color theory eg. OP's avatar
Because they're a new fandom, and they're comparable to furries in the 'Fursecution' stage of the fandom. My opinion anyway.
For me it's because they don't understand color theory, merge absolutely fuckton of everything into their fandom, mix fucked up fetishes into their art, and can't take criticism (My understandings from DeviantArt)
Hi, former self-admitted "brony" here. I no longer call myself one because I feel the community has gone beyond the point of redemption on a number of levels. The most prominent thing that caused me to give up on the fandom was their utter obnoxiousness, and their tendency to invade absolutely everything for no apparent reason. I'll admit that I was not much better than these people around a year and a half ago, but at that time I would feel confident in calling such people a vocal minority. It got harder and harder over time to say this with confidence, and eventually I drifted away entirely. I still watch the show (despite not much liking the new episodes) and look for fan content, but I try to distance myself as much as possible from the brony fandom when I can help it. So in conclusion, I feel the pony phenomenon is reaching Sonic fandom levels of sheer stupidity, and have no desire to take part in it anymore. I don't really "hate" people who call themselves bronies, but I feel that many of the people who still do this are part of the problem.
I don't see how MLP or any other kid's shows could ever serve as good source of entertainment for me. And if you are a teenager or older male person and you giggle at a pony children's show/other similar childish stuff over the Internet, then something ain't right and you should stop it.
theres a reason why my little pony mass debates get locked on facepunch but i honestly dislike the show because i don't find anything to like about it
As a guy who enjoys the show, and is even the captain of a former competitive MLP-based TF2 team, I'm conflicted on how I feel about bronies as a whole. Certainly there are nice folks and close friends of mine who are bronies, and everyone in my close family enjoys the show, too, but there are some people who just take it way too far. Conversely, there are some people who believe that anyone who likes something so simple as a cartoon have mental illnesses and deserve to die. I think that nobody is in the right on the so-called issue of bronies. I think everyone needs to chill out and remember its just a show, and if you like it a lot, fine, and if you don't, fine, just leave each other alone.

And, I must stress that you look at the fandom as a whole, not the vocal minority. The vocal minority, in my opinion, are those who cause these invasions. Ignoring that part does reveal kind-spirited people, whom I place myself with. Those who help people, those who contribute, those who are not whiners or obnoxious.
I would beg to differ with the OP and say that the vocal folks are far from being a minority, at least when represented on the internet or at conventions, where they frequently disrupt people for no discernible reasons.

I'm assuming you've watched the show before. The nicer ones and the psychotic ones. The psychotic ones are the vocal minority, and make a bad name for the nicer ones, the majority, no matter how much they try to clear their name. I personally think you are right. People overreact on both sides, and need to stop.
I would beg to differ with the OP and say that the vocal folks are far from being a minority, at least when represented on the internet or at conventions, where they frequently disrupt people for no discernible reasons.
They make you perceive them as bigger due to their obnoxiousness. The ones who are nice, and make up most of the fandom IMO, are those who keep to themselves, their friends, and other bronies. Invisible, so to speak.
I'd say the stranger ones may be the majority, at least from personal experiences. Of all the bronies I know at school, its almost a 50/50 split between normal folk and just downright bizarre people. [editline]6th January 2013[/editline] I also think its very rude of you to say that being homosexual is not normal, I have a brother who is gay and a brony, but according to your opening statement, that makes him somehow sub-normal.
If you're loud enough about it to proclaim yourself as a 'brony', you're in the bad part. If you watch and enjoy and talk about a kids show, I couldn't give less of a fuck, but if you define yourself by that kids show, yeah, you're out there. That's just my two cents.
There is also nothing inherently wrong with pedophilia, people can't help their preferences. there is a distinct difference between pedophiles and child molesters, so you should not be making generalizations without doing your research.

So this already rather shitty thread don't go ALL the way down the drain? (User was banned for this post ("This isn't how you debate" - Craptasket))

I am in full support of gay people, and I do sincerely apologize. My basis for that was that most bronies, as a generic insult, are called "fags" or "gay" and the like, just because they watch a show about pastel-colored horses. Again, my deepest, sincerest apologies for coming off that way, and best of wishes to your brother. And, if I may, what crosses the line for you to bizarre ones?
Personally I used to hate MLP I used to say the same thing that alot of people on Facepunch say "omg kill urself ponyfag" "lol clopper kill urself faggot" "your gay" etc etc I think it's more of a "Don't knock it until you try it" situation when it comes to MLP Until I found out the show was created by Lauren Faust, Creator of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and that the show contained the voice of Tara Strong, An individual who has a quite lengthy Voice career but I'm not going to list all the voices she has done since she has voiced quite alot. Anyways while I can understand while some people might not like Bronies since I do notice that sometimes we do seem to post our content everywhere, Plus some of us may be rather awkward, I still seem to wonder why people might think we are different from other fanbases There are always going to be awkward, Weird people in a fanbase, no matter what it may be Plus I find it quite unique when someone is into something that usually is meant for another group of people or gender

The unnecessary injection into fucking everything is annoying.
I understand people hating MLP if it gets treated like a meme and "injected into everything" as Banned? has stated, but it really pisses me off when people say that people who watch MLP shouldn't because it's a show for little kids. Guess what, Regular Show, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Doctor Who, Phineas and Ferb and SpongeBob Squarepants are made for "little kids", but that doesn't stop people from loving them.

He will often shout out ridiculous 'jokes', if you could call them that, in the middle of classes, and lacks many basic soccial skills.
Yeah, no, can we all agree to ignore this guy? So this already rather shitty thread don't go ALL the way down the drain?
Well, I'm glad you did any research too. Sure, let's just assume all pedophiles are criminals, that'll teach them to try and assimilate!
