• Random Bans?

Hi, well, I am new here, and how come in just about every thread I read, there is at least 2-5 people banned that I see per thread??? Sometimes the person was even banned because of that thread for stupid reasons like "Why reply?" and it actually kinda pisses me off. Now, I don't wanna go ranting saying your admins are bad or anything, because I don't really know them, but you guys here seem pretty ban-happy.... Can anyone answer my question on why there are banned people everywhere?? P.S. Don't ban me for this thread =/ (User was banned for this post ("MONOCLE SMILE!" - GunFox))
Why reply is a completely reasonable ban reason, what's the point of a person shitting up a thread by posting "lol" or "tl;dr"? And click to see the ban reasons
"Why Reply?" means that the post contributed nothing to the thread and was just overall dumb
It's the forum's style. The only real way to keep FP running is to be hardasses, otherwise the shit overflows. Look at the Furry Forum, that's basically what all of FP would be like without mods.
facepunch has always has been like that you learn to deal with it :/
It doesn't sound very banable though, more like a "Please don't reply to this- warning" Not "Why reply - Ban" =P
There are thousands of active users at any moment on this forums. If the rules would not be so strict, this place would be a shithole. You won't get banned when you write reasonable posts like this one, or two above ones, so don't worry. Isn't it heartwarming to see such a clean and tidy forum?
They used to ban people for 1-24 minutes. I dunno why it was so low and why it changed
It doesn't sound very banable though, more like a "Please don't reply to this- warning" Not "Why reply - Ban" =P
Ok, again, click the button. Most "Why Reply" bans are warnings, they get banned for between 1 hour - 1 day, usually, or more if the post was really shitty/the poster has a bad history. Bans and permabans are different things.
It doesn't sound very banable though, more like a "Please don't reply to this- warning" Not "Why reply - Ban" =P
These are not permabans. People usually get banned for day, two or 7 as max. You done something stupid, got banned for 3 days, and when you get back you don't want to do this again unless you're stupid. Ninjas.
Ohh, so they are temporary, I suppose that is more reasonable then a perma, thanks for clearing it up =)
Yeah, the temporary bans are warnings.
Ohh, so they are temporary, I suppose that is more reasonable then a perma, thanks for clearing it up =)
No problem. Next time though, try posting in the "Ask About The Forums" thread first, making a topic just to ask something is generally bad. Oh, and text emoticons aren't really used, things like  and especially :downs: are more common
:iiam: :siren:They don't get banned for replying to a thread they're not supposed to:siren: They get banned because their post has no content whatsoever and it did not add to the topic at all. Overall a just not needed post. Depending on their ban history determines their ban length for it sometimes.

I dont really know the point of keeping it so strict just so we can have a something awful for 12 year olds is.
It used to be a lot worse, but when amount of bans decreased, so did the quality of the forums. Garry lightened it about a year and a half ago to be more newbie-friendly, because he was sick of his forum being known for nothing but ban-happy mods and "a bad community," neither of which was the case. However it is a lot more popular now, so more income. It's better...for garry.
he was sick of his forum being known for nothing but ban-happy mods and "a bad community," neither of which was the case.
I still hear people saying this and I half agree at times. What I think needs to be changed is that when you're banned you can still read the forums. I know you can just clear your cookies and all, but why does one have to do it just to read?
Ohh, so they are temporary, I suppose that is more reasonable then a perma, thanks for clearing it up =)
Yeah, any ban that isn't a permaban serves as a warning. When a moderator thinks you are unable or unwilling to contribute any further good content to the community (or you have proven yourself to simply be a dumbass) you'll be permabanned. And you can always contest any ban if you feel it was unjust. (It'll be clear how to do this when it happens)
FP is one of the most heavily moderated forums on the internet. It's also one of the BEST forums on the internet. The only thing I can see that might be better is SA, but I don't have an account.
Trust us, they used to be much more ban-happy. [editline]07:56AM[/editline]
Look at the Furry Forum, that's basically what all of FP would be like without mods.
Quoted for truth.
If they didn't ban people for every little thing I probably wouldn't come here anymore.
They used to ban people for 1-24 minutes. I dunno why it was so low and why it changed
No, those were 1 hour and 24 hours. When the forums moved to FP09, some old events got fucked up.
No, those were 1 hour and 24 hours. I could be mistaken though.
No, don't be silly. We don't ban people randomly at all.
I got banned for 1 minute on both of the threads I made, 1 for a smile, and the other for no reason..... =P
You devious bastard
No, don't be silly. We don't ban people randomly at all.
GunFox just made this thread diamonds.
Everyone laugh at the joke Gunfox made
(User was banned for this post ("MONOCLE SMILE!" - GunFox))
OHOHOHOHO! GunFox you little rascal you :buddy: And actually, they aren't random bans. They have a reason to them.
