Rhapsody of Fire's Gargoyles, Angles of Darkness. The intro acoustic solo is beautiful, and the one near the end is intense(09:56). The song is 19 minutes long though, here's a link to an amazing cover of the second solo. Pretty much one giant solo.
Buckethead - Soothsayer (Dedicated to Aunt Suzie) Probably one of his most moving songs. Everyone thinks he is a just good for shredding, in which case I say that you are most definitely wrong.
The shred critique is pretty common and is usually made by people who don't really listen to the artist. Steve Vai is known as someone who just plays really fast, but if you listen to his music that isn't true at all. He does have very fast parts, but there are a lot of slow parts, and the fast parts are musical and make sense in context to the song. Unfortunately I can't say this about Michael Angelo Batio. He can actually make some good music, but he continually screws himself because putting nonsensical shred parts in every two seconds and it just gets pointless. I actually did listen to a few of his CDs and I was quite disappointed.
Yngwie Malmsteen is a situation where the shred critique is very applicable all he does is play really really fast
The solo that got me into RATM. Godly.
Yngwie Malmsteen is a situation where the shred critique is very applicable all he does is play really really fast
but he's really good at it and knows what he's doing and it works he created "shred"
