Black person walks in a Korean supermarket, chaos ensues.

What the christ.
[quote]One fine morning, pandemonium broke out in a South Korean supermarket, and customers and shop stewards alike scampered for safety. Babies strapped on their mothers' backs, others in prams screamed as their parents sought the nearest exits.
And it wasn't a terrorist attack, neither was it a band of robbers who had raided the convenience store. No, it wasn't a fire alert either. One Kenyan woman had just walked in to make a purchase.
"It was terrible!" recalls the woman, Everlyne Nyambegera. "Children were crying, their mothers dashing for the exits and all this made me also break down and start crying too."
"I was so upset and I said to myself that I will never go back to Korea again . . . one of my aunties in Kenya told me I'd be mad to return to Korea," she told Lifestyle in Seoul recently.
It was the first time in their lives that these Koreans had seen a black person, live, and their fright makes Ms Nyambegera smile in hindsight each time she narrates the amusing story to friends and family. Ms Nyambegera is Kenya's only trader in the Republic of Korea, her Kisii soapstone and curio shop the sole Kenyan business in this fast-growing Asian nation. The shop incident is just one of many hardships that she has had to endure to break even in a market that is so conservative and wary of foreigners, especially black people.

Silly Koreans
Oh man I'm going to take a trip to Korea with all my non-white friends
Wow.
And they say there are huge cultural differences between North and South Korea!
Ahahaha, what.
They must not go out very much. I see foreigners all the time, even in pretty rural places.
It sounds incredibly racist and terrible, but if I was seeing a black person for the first time too I'd be kind of in shock. Especially when they contrast so much with Asians in almost every physical feature. (Mind out of the gutter, guys... Although that does stand as one of their differences, too.)

The crying and running away is excessive, though.

When South Americans saw Europeans for the first time, they hailed them as Gods after all.

Yeah, but you have to be incredibly sheltered in order to not know that other ethnic groups exist, almost on the level of North Koreans.

Unfortunately, this is more common than most people expect, particularly with people who don't keep up with global communication. (Old/poor people in rural areas, generally).

I've looked up studies of this, and the difference of penis size seems to be mostly within fractions of an inch. I think this is more a case of people thinking minorities are ~exotic~ and shit; I can't find a legitimate study where they are conclusively shown to have significantly larger dicks.
Haha. You have to admit, in a vastly Asian country it's simply odd to see a black person walking around.
We basically never associate Asians with Black people in media, so when something like this happens:

You just have to question what he's doing there.
I'm all for it. Pro Multicultralism.
This is the funniest headline I've read in ages. If I was that woman I'd have strolled around the shop singing Back in Black.
I remember going to Beijing with the school, and one of the girls that were with us happened to be black. Random people would stop her in the middle of the streets to take photos of/with her like "YOU ARE BLACK, AND YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!" - like she was straight out of the Guinness World Book of Records or some shit.

A similar thing happened to one of my white friends. Kids followed him around yelling "FOREIGNER!" Now he made it a habit to point back at them and chase them while yelling "KOREANS!"

Please tell me you have a video of this, or at least a photo.

I want to see this.
Heh, "wary of foreigners, especially black people"... what a politically correct way of saying "racist".
oh man i wish i had black friends so i could roll round the streets and blare some rap out of a car
I want to gather a gang of 50 6-foot black people and just walk around korea knocking on peoples doors.

This.
I've heard it said that people S. Korea are more racist than much of the South during Segregation. It has a lot to do woth Korean Nationalism though, lots more than what was here.

Oh God the scene I can imagine :v:

Clearly this would stero-type clash with black people though...
I expected it to at least be a big black tank at least 2 meter tall and not a woman.
IT'S A DEMON
OH GOD THE MAYA'S WERE RIGHT
Why don't they learn in schools about other cultures and skin colours? This is the most fucking stupid thing I've read today. Even as bad as people asking us Germans always who is our current king.
[QUOTE=Bean Shoot;32872779]Ahahaha, what.

Maybe it was in some really traditional place.
What I don't get is if you've never seen a black person, live(as opposed to dead I guess), why would you be scared of them? Is your first reaction to anything new to be scared shitless of it? That sounds lame.
On the other hand if you've been told racist things, like they'll eat your babies, about black people THEN you see one for the first time, yeah you'd probably freak out.
Do you think Koreans would pay money to see a live black person? I have an idea.
It's like they're living in the bloody Amazon. Throwing shit at a helicopter because they've never seen it before, except in this case it's Koreans crying because they see a black woman. Ethical isolation much. It's just strange, it looks like they don't know a different folk than Koreans exist.
It's a shame there isn't a video of this happening in the supermarket.
She should have gone to Best Korea.
