An artist in Providence, Rhode Island was apprehended the other day by mall security as he left the secret apartment he’d built almost four years ago, in an unused utility space in the mall’s parking garage. The apartment had no running water (they used mall bathrooms), but it did include “a sectional sofa and love seat, coffee and breakfast tables, chairs, lamps, rugs, paintings, a hutch filled with china, a waffle iron, TV and Sony Playstation 2,” according to the Boston Globe. The man built the apartment with the help of seven other artists, and various people have lived in it over the past few years for up to three weeks at a time.
Source: http://consumerist.com/2007/10/03/man-builds-secret-apartment-at-mall-gets-away-with-it-for-four-years/ (User was banned for this post ("Check the date of your article before you blindly copy shit from Reddit" - Starpluck))
Reminds me of that 4chan post of a guy who had been secretly living in the basement of his mother's house for like 6 months to a year without her knowing.

As a dude with a huge appreciation for architectural art, I've always been pretty fascinated by the idea of converting industrial or commercial buildings into cool, unique living spaces. This story sparks my imagination. It's too bad they vacated the Guy, but I guess they had no other choice!
I remember reading this or something very similar a few years ago. Awesome story though.

Not as bad as the guy who built a space under a public toilet that he could sit in and be shat on.
That's pretty damn cool.
