Why do people insult those with mental/physical disabilities?

It's a horrible fact but many people insult people for having a form of Autism, or Mental Retardation.(They changed the name but I can't remember it) It makes everything unfriendly for everyone, the one insulted often feels worse and worse, much worse than when a normal person is insulted. When people call someone a "Retard" it makes me so mad! An example would be everywhere(one of which being the Blockland forums.) Another could be when I was playing GMod and built a little car thing, someone came up and said "Nice car retard" Just because it was my first attempt at a car.

Well Ironic, my mom teaches Special Ed in High School, she has taught it in Jr. High, and Elementary. All three she's had at least 4 kids get suspended. That kid at your school is your school's problem.

People insult others to single them out, this can be through what is different about them or some quality that they do not have but can still be insulted by. Mentaly or physicaly handicaped people can be significantly different to other people and as such are an easy target.
Calling people who are not retarded retarded is fairly simple to understand; being mentaly handicaped is often ascociated with being stupid so they become almost synonymous and calling someone retard is the equivalent of calling them stupid.

Aspergers doesn't exist. It's just an excuse for parents to use to state that their kids are just retarded socially.

The word retard has changed to mean generaly stupid but it still is offensive to mentaly handicaped people. This thread is also about generaly insulting people who have disabilies just because they are disabled.
