I have just been using this drawing tablet for about a week, for a project and came up with this..

I just drew a random mask, it turned into a gas mask which turned into i don't know what, then..yeah i can't explain 0.o
I can' tell what is what, it looks like a bunch of blobs.
I saw the gas mask but then i saw a Geth Armature.
Well what i was aiming for now that i think of it, is the kind of suit on dead space, with some halo face mask lol
wow it does look like Geth.. I never actually have seen that character before..so...yeah

oh also keeping in mind i used a very cheap (free actually) program from school..not paint..but..pencil.. has no real shading or anything pretty cheap but easy to make animations with it

Anything can be achieved with anything. Go search Plutonia and Xamillew in the MSPaint corner. You'll see what i mean.
I once drew something with a soy sauce packet on a spread napkin and I was able to achieve values of lights and dark. I got a free meal : D
Well, I would suggest defining the subject matter more, practicing, reading tutorials if you can find them, practice drawing with pencil, and browsing through deviant arts' digital art section. This will help to get a better understanding of different techniques and allow your art to better represent what you had intended.
Thanks for the advice guys, ill go see what i can dig up. This was a very first so i didn't intend it to be spectacular in any state of form.
