For some reason I feel the urge to take up blacksmithing even thought I don't know anything about it

Make yourself a crowbar.
The guys website is really interesting.
Blacksmith sure seems like an awesome job.
But I honestly thought that this was going to be a video about some guy becoming a tool.
C'mon guys, this is clearly a trailer for Skyrim: Hearthfire

Suddenly, churning out 50 iron daggers in the space of a minuet feels a little...dishonest...

You wanna churn out axes instead?
For some reason I thought this video was going to be about snooki's child.
Still a really cool video though.
I'd imagine you'd get a really rewarding feeling using an axe that you made youself.
Expected Snooki giving birth.
Its pretty magical to be able to actually created something by hand. Think about it, you're using a raw material and shaping it in to something, every aspect of it was custom made because there is no way each thing he makes will be the same.
I used to do a bit of carpendry. Nothing like this guy in terms of making stuff, but when you can easily go out and buy a shelf, desk, frame, whatever and put it together in seconds and instead go out buy raw materials and make it yourself. The amount of satisfaction you get after it is completed is incredible. Now you use something that you made every day. Makes me want to get all my tools out of the shed and make something.
I want to blacksmith now.
Somebody get RR_raptor65 in here.

That's why I like woodworking, and I've been taking the woodshop classes since Freshmen year; on top of enjoying it it's a rather easy grade. Last year I made an electric bass and this year I'm making an acoustic bass, and the satisfaction I got after finishing the electric bass made me appreciate it a whole lot more as an instrument than if I were to go out and buy one at a music store. It's entirely my own design as well, and made out of some great woods, including a curly maple face-plate on the body which really popped out when I put some finishing coats on.
The process he used to make the handle is fairly simple too, I can see it won't be any harder than the neck I made for my bass, carving the wood and sanding it is about the hardest part. That blacksmithing looks really neat though, I've seen videos of people who turn railroad spikes into knives. It looks like a really useful skill too, that's something I'll want to look into, it'd be great to combine woodworking and blacksmithing like the guy in the video.
This guy has a really nice website too: http://www.neemantools.com/en/about-us/who-where-and-why
And a good quote to go along with why he does what he does:
When someone asks - “Why? Why are you making hand tools in this high-tech age?” - we usually answer them with a quotation from Mahathma Ghandi:
Its a tragedy of the first magnitude that millions of people have ceased to use their hands as hands. Nature has bestowed upon us this great gift which is our hands. If the craze for machinery methods continues, it is highly likely that a time will come when we shall be so incapacitated and weak that we shall begin to curse ourselves for having forgotten the use of the living machines given to us by God.
Mahathma Ghandi

Good old Ghandi, that's enough reason for me to learn these skills, on top of them being an enjoyment to me.

They have a page on their website about the creating process, you should really check that out if you're interested.

Blacksmithing is really fun, hard at first 'cos you keep thinking you know how to do it yet you keep fucking up, but it's really rewarding.

P. badass too.
Artistic as fuck.
Damn, that is so fucking cool. I could watch blacksmithing all day.
That was so amazing.
Wow, these are reasonably-priced for a piece of hand-made quality.
Shame they're not accepting orders at the moment.
Someone should put the Guild Wars 2 xp gain from crafting at the end and make it rank up from 1-2.
On a serious note though, that was strangely relaxing.
Bon Iver and smithing, two of my favorite things. what's not to like?
