Kobe Bryant announced Sunday on the Players' Tribune website that he will retire after this season, saying "I'm ready to let [basketball] go."
Bryant, 37, is struggling through the worst season of his storied 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers and has been plagued by injuries in each of the past five seasons. He entered Sunday's game against the Indiana Pacers averaging 15.7 points per game on a career-worst 31.5 shooting percentage.

"But I can't love you obsessively for much longer," Bryant wrote. "This season is all I have left to give. My heart can take the pounding. My mind can handle the grind but my body knows it's time to say goodbye.
"And that's OK. I'm ready to let you go."
About time.
Ahh, such a shame. I haven't even got to see him play this year, though from the stats I've read about him, he hasn't aged into a role well. Tim Duncan has that mastered.
An incredible legend that I watched when I was growing up. Shame to see him go.
Gotta commend him for staying good for so long, as well as stepping down with dignity.
Kobe going to be living the good life
Retired at age 37 with millions in the bank and more coming from his Nike contract and other endorsements.
Legend, gonna be a different league without him for sure. Tons of fans and even players grew up with the guy.

kobe is a shooting guard, his body has been through way more than duncan. And while pop is a master at managing the veteran's minutes, kobe is a must play must be used kind of guard.
He has aged well, coming off of 2 career ending injuries and still averaging 15 is better than anyone can imagine.
I might not like the lakers or kobe, but gotta give the guy respect where it's due.
People are saying, wow he should retire already but fans of the sport see it as one last bit of kobe, like licking the bowl to every last drop.
It's gonna be sad to see him gone next season for sure.
-snip-
He sucks anyways, klippers 4 life.
Damn if it wasn't for his achilles injury, he could've still been a top 5 player in the league these past few seasons. It's been sad watching him take jumper after jumper and not attacking the basket like he used to do.

It's crazy to know that in less than 3 years all of the players from the 90s and 20th century will be gone. No Kobe,Dirk,Duncan,KG,Carter etc.
I respect him as a great player but he's a total cunt which is why I never cared for him.
