No source yet, local media says a Small town 300 Mi south of Alaska is reporting a plane crash that killed 10, including the pilot. Will stand by till I can get a source.
E: Got it.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Authorities say an air taxi has crashed at the Soldotna Airport in Alaska, killing all 10 people on board.
National Transportation Safety Board investigator Clint Johnson says the pilot and nine passengers were killed in the crash at the airport late Sunday morning
God I'm flying to Sweden in 13 days, and already with a fear of heights+flying these plane crash stories that keep coming don't help.

statistically there are way more car crashes than plane crashes
and you probably use a car/a bus everyday
hope that helps

fuck, planes are rad
during takeoff I always imagine that it's a SSTO and i'm going somewhere like alpha centauri
then you have 5-6 hours of doing fuck all, reading or watching movies, also plane food
If you drove the same distance, you would have a much higher chance of dying in a car crash, if that is any consolation.
That line of thinking doesn't really help me, because I bet all of the people scared of flying that got on planes that crashed before said that exact same thing to themselves. Also the fact that plane crashes are much more likely to be fatal, if something goes horribly wrong then you have to spend some time knowing that your death is certain while you hurl towards the floor at 600mph in a 50 tonne hunk of steel.
I'm not so bad after the plane is off the ground, but I panic at the slightest bit of turbulence.

well remember that planes never will like just DROP out of the air except if the wings tear off. They can glide to safety.

my only advice, as harsh as it sounds, is: stop being a baby

also this
this isn't LOST
IIRC there was only one plane that fucked itself mid-flight, because it had retarded windows on it's top
[editline]8th July 2013[/editline]
and that was in fucking 50s
[editline]8th July 2013[/editline]
so man up and enjoy the ride

Sure, but for every piece of distance you glide you also lose some altitude.
So if you're not in a very favorable position to start with, you'll end up in the sea.
Sure, but for every piece of distance you glide you also lose some altitude.
So if you're not in a very favorable position to start with, you'll end up in the sea.
But the likeliness of both engines failing on a dual engine commercial jet is quite low, even lower on a four engine jet.
Funny thing is, most crashes are around take-off and landing, not by stalling to death :v:

And yet you're still not very likely at all to be killed.

Rather end up in the sea, a plane can float pretty well. It all comes down to the skill of the pilot, yes you will get hurt but unless it's like: "HOLY SHIT HALF THE PLANE EXPLODED" or "BOTH OF THE WINGS TORE OFF" or "ITS A CLOWN ON THE WING" i'm sure most of the passengers will survive.

And most deaths from crashing are due to fire and smoke, not impact.
And most deaths from crashing are due to fire and smoke, not impact.
Because death by burning and asphyxiation is so much better than being ripped to shreds by an explosion :v:

Just remember, no one reports on the thousands (tens, hundreds?) of flights that make it safely to their destination every day.
every time Ive flown I have always seemed to have watched mayday the day before..maybe they will get an episode

If it helps, turbulence has never brought down a plane and you are ~235x LESS likely to die in a plane crash than you are in a car crash, and those odds are reasonably low to begin with.
"HOLY SHIT HALF THE PLANE EXPLODED" or "BOTH OF THE WINGS TORE OFF" or "ITS A CLOWN ON THE WING"
Sounds like Space Station 13 :v:

You just reminded me of Seconds from Disaster... I miss that show...

Plane crashes have a 95% survival rate with your chances of being involved in one resulting in a fatality being 1/3,400,000 for the 78 biggest airlines and 1/10,000,000 for the 39 with the best accident rates
Your odds of being the one killed are 1/20,000,000 .
Planes are safe, just go up and enjoy the ride.
Don't end up behind a row of 4 babies, though. Then you'll want it to crash.
If you're really worried, sit in the back section. Statistically less people die there.
