I've literally never heard the term "land barge" before...
how about a land yacht?
I've heard that but only referred to these:

As in old American huge cars

That's a land barge, yeah. In my opinion, most land barges today are your standard issue rear-wheel drive, full size luxury sedans. (Usually Japanese Origin)
I'd consider any one of the car's I've owned to be land barges
the 1991 Mercedes 300CE
2001 BMW 740i (not so much a barge, but still counts)
2008 BMW 750Li (true land barge)

Oh yes.

Dat ass.

Bitch be all wet.
I love land barges. My car isn't luxurious in a traditional foreign sense. It hasn't got many gadgets, the interior isn't gorgeous- it's beige, in fact- but it's got the only thing Americans truly think is luxury: size and a smooth V8. This car is also such a sensation to drive. Wheel feedback is crisp, and whenever you stomp on the accelerator, the whole hood rises like the bow of great ship cresting a wave. Since it's a Crown Vic, people give it a wide berth when driving, too. I've never seen an unmodified normal car with such a presence. And since it doesn't have all sorts of fancy gadgets, there's almost nothing to go wrong compared to more modern cars. It's also body-on-frame, so it's incredibly cheap to repair if you get in a fender bender. And, best of all, it's got a split bench in the front. Literally no other car had that in 2011.

By the way, land yachts are a subset if land barges. The difference is the level of luxury and price. That's what you've got, Dbk.
Any Chrysler c body was pretty much a land yacht. Think newyorker. But they were good for yanking motors from and putting into smaller cars.
almost bought a mazda 929 that was turbo'd when i bought my e30, but decided against it because parts are REALLY rare here in denmark for them.
I haven't owned one, but for the brief period of time between getting my licence and my first car I drove my brother's Ford AU Fairlane, like the one below but in a burgundy colour:

It was a fucking boat whenever I had to park it. I always attempted to avoid parking in car parks, preferring street parking. Very roomy though; the leg room for the back seats is very generous (being an extended-wheelbase variant of a large sedan, the Ford Falcon). It also goes okay, with its 182kW 4.0L I6. Sounds heaps good with its high-flow exhaust system (the whole lot - aftermarket extractors, high-flow cat, sports muffler which barely muffled to within what is legally allowed).

The 300CE isn't a barge by any means

Now this is a barge with a three pointed star...
My parents call them Yank Tanks

I find that they're pretty nice and easy to park and drive. I doubt Fairlanes had a manual option but Manual EB-AU Falcons are absolute pains to park. Also you got to have a really easy going foot to drive the 5.0L variants, they spin tyres way too easy as you'd expect.
Anyway I'd absolutely love to own a Lincoln Continental with a nice 7.5L motor

especially a convertible model like this

Sadly they're pretty rare here :/

my 300CE was a barge because blown shocks lol
it would just float down the highway

I disagree, the 300CE is too small, but you bring up a good point about land barges that excludes those slammed Lexii(?) a few posts up. Land barges have to have relatively soft shocks. Sportiness and land barginess are almost mutually exclusive, at least in terms of flat and level cornering. Sure you can have crisp handling, but the car must iron out bumps and problems in the road. You can't have something that will have you bouncing around the cabin. Unless those cars are bagged, in which case they can still count, but the angles of the wheels look wrong for that to me.
its not just the handling, for a car to classify as a land barge, it must be A) HUGE by normal person standards B) Have a v8 C) Handle literally like a boat and D) have insanely floaty suspension.
If you don't meet these, you don't drive a land barge.
Guess mine fits most of that criteria, except the V8.
Quite wide
[t]http://i.imgur.com/RYTeroI.jpg[/t]
And quite long
[t]http://i.imgur.com/cwFista.jpg[/t]
Also has a very smooth suspension and it really does float along the road. It also has quite a lot of body roll into corners. :v:

Why does it have to have a V8? A car with an inline 6 requires a longer engine bay. And then you have V10s and V12s.
My friend has a 2000'ish Cadillac sedan, AKA "Fatillac". the suspension is so floaty I feel sick when we drive around town in it.

Straight 6's are okay, but V6's should be disqualified. Also more cylinders than 8 is perfectly acceptable imo.

I've always wanted to drive one of these offroad and watch the suspension :v:

Lol, mine has blown shocks too and instead of floating, when you hit a bump the car shudders. Gonna have to get new shocks soon and I might consider getting a set of BBS RS rims because they look cool

[t]http://www.2040cars.com/_content/cars/images/98/479498/001.jpg[/t]
I might just lower the car half an inch though instead of going through the trouble of trying to find BBS rims for a fair price and use that money to repaint it to factory paint spec.
I think my favorite land yacht would have to be the early 90s Lincoln Town Car, as an auto enthusiat and a film buff(they totalled four of them in the making of one of my favorite films, Fight Club) so I think it deserves an honorable ment-

Wat.
May I introduce the Lincoln Townchero!
The Cadillac Brougham is fairly land yacht like to me.

Am I the only one here who hates post 60s American barges?
