It's the same guy who went to China and bought all the parts to make an iPhone and made a working iPhone.
Here's the other video if you never saw it:

I can't stand Apple anymore. They really are out of ideas.
So it totally does fit in there, and even as a workaround hacked onto the Lightning port. Apple's primary reasoning for removing it was to free up space, which clearly wasn't necessary. I'm certain their professional engineers and designers could've worked a native headphone jack into the iPhone 7's design without having to make it any bigger.
And even if space was an issue, why doesn't the iPhone 7 Plus have a headphone jack? It's almost the same components in a bigger shell.
they could have saved space by not making it a thin piece of shit
It didn't need it changed and they removed it because they want to give the illusion of being ahead of the game.

How the hell can a Samsung S8 do all it can and have a headphone jack
almost as if it wasn't developed by fools
I can not for the life of me justify buying overpriced wireless earbuds just for the sake of music

Big Bluetooth is behind it.
no jack and a dumb dongle makes more people buy more bluetooth headsets and buds

I think a part of it too is trying to Steve Jobs it
When they removed floppy drives and CD drives they were correct in it not needing it. Even Windows 10 installs via USB now, consoles are becoming increasingly digital. they were 100% correct in the assumption.
this isn't a case of obsolete tech however. Wireless is just way too expensive and when it cheapens down it will still remain at best a premium thing.
Have to admire this persons determination, as someone who is getting into hobbyist electronics I would be pleased if I could even get half way to what he did without giving up.

Apple doesn't make money off headphone jacks.
But they do make money off proprietary lightning headphones.
I wouldn't hugely mind the decision to get rid of the headphone jack had Apple gone down the USB-C route. Forcing people to use a proprietary cable is completely stupid
That's really frustrating that it's (relatively) simple to do by an amateur, but big bad Apple can't.

Just goes to show you how their "courage" was the courage to see how far they can get away with fucking the consumer
tbh they should show that they are truly full of courage and remove all ports, making the entire phone perfectly encased in glass
Well without the headphone jack there's only one port left, so "removing all ports" is essentially "removing the final one"

Yep. Make the phone one perfectly solid glass. No ports or anything at all. Not even speakers.
you know how the s8 has glass on both sides? One up them and make the entire thing glass.

More like won't.
They're making sure the consumers are their bitch

Mmm, still requiring adapters
Mmm, still requiring adapters
If other manufacturers go to USB-C and remove the headphone jack (some other phone manufacturers already have), it would subsequently bring on a large amount of USB-C headphones being produced. Of course you'd need adapters still whilst transitioning or if you wanted to use your existing headphones, but that's no different to any other port replacement

But whyyyyy? There's no reason whatsoever to remove the headphone jack! Why should I buy stupid Bluetooth or USB C headphones that won't work with my computer or stereo when I can just use my analog phones that have been the gold standard for years??? The 1/8th inch headphone jack is functionally perfect. Easy to use, sturdy, and very compact.
Future computers will have USB-C too, and the "why" is more just the whole fact USB-C exists; it bundles what needed several ports before, into one port. Not that I'm necessarily defending Apple's decision, but I do like the idea of a future where I can have 1 port for any kind of peripheral
If you can use your headphones and charge your phone at the same time, I'd get behind that. If not, bring jack back
apple could chisel the iphone 8 out of a rock and people would still buy it because "its apple, they're the best" and "its expensive therefore it must be better"

My dad's got an iphone 7, and I got my hands on that little headphone to lightning adapter
It's so obvious how it's set up to easily break. The wire is thin, the connections to the plug heads are weak and flims
I wonder how much one of those motherboards with all the components pre-installed costs
I checked the prices, a fully functional 6S motherboard costs ~160USD, combined with screen, battery, case, buttons etc. the total price comes in at ~300USD inc shipping. Sorta tempted to try it myself, though it would of course suck ass if some part dies or is DOA. Still, I imagine that the prices on-location are lower, and with many of the merchants offering warranties and everything, I'd imagine assembling your own phone in China is about as usual and everyday as people assembling their own PCs

To be fair that's the case with all Apple cables, they fray/break really easily, spoken from experience, thankfully there's alternatives

I don't get this line of thought - aren't headphones usually meant for audio on the go, instead of staying put next to a wall plug? Maybe it's just my routines, but I find wearing earbuds while being forced to stay still incredibly awkward. That's just me tho'

As opposed to what alternative exactly? If you were at school listening to music and needed to charge your phone, would you just blast it out of the speakers in public? I don't get where you're coming from here
Another big one is long drives, if your stereo has solid bluetooth or USB audio integration that covers it but otherwise you'll wanna plug in an aux cable and a charger usually.

He mentioned on reddit that the part he removed to make it fit would have messed with the altimeter had he kept it waterproof (It isn't anymore)
That being said I'm sure their engineers could have come up with a solution that didn't require axing the headphone jack.

Bluetooth is pretty much standard on all cars now, so that's not really an issue unless your car is more than a few years old, however there's still the issue if you're at work/school and you want to charge your phone and listen to music
Do you guys feel like 2 USB-C ports wouldve been better then apples unqiue port and no headphone jack?

Having to charge bluetooth headphones is a bit annoying tho.
I usually keep my phone charging all night before work while listen to music with my regular headphones. If i used blue tooth they would be dead before i could head to work in the morning.
-this was late-

And if you're poor and drive a car without a bluetooth head unit go fuck yourself because most tape adapters and FM transmitters go off the headphone jack, and ones with Lightning ports are more expensive and even then they all sound worse than a normal aux jack.
My 1979 RV had an aux jack in the radio. There's no reason to lose this kind of compatibility just for the sake of thinness, which this video proves isn't even necessary!
