The former Max Payne developer consulted with Rockstar on a couple occasions

Max Payne fans have been waiting since 2003 for another entry in the franchise, and Rockstar Games is finally about to deliver the goods with Max Payne 3 on May 15. According to former Max Payne developer Remedy Entertainment, the long wait for a new Max Payne will pay off.
Matias Myllyrinne, CEO of Remedy Entertainment, commented to GamesIndustry International about Rockstar's new game: "It's f***ing brilliant. I've had a chance to play it and we've worked with Rockstar a little bit - obviously, they're doing the heavy lifting. They're doing the development. But they wanted our input on a couple of occasions and we've had loads of our people, our core group, who worked on the first two games, give input and it's awesome."

Myllyrinne continued, noting Rockstar's passion for the Max Payne IP and creating finely crafted titles in general.
"Those guys, they just don't put out bad games. And so, in that respect, it's very - it's almost like the best position to be in. It's like somebody's making a great game and you just get to give them input, and it's already brilliant so I've enjoyed it," he said. "I can't obviously - I don't want to give any spoilers and can't give out any spoilers, but it's a testament to their attention to detail and it's a testament to their passion and dedication. It'll be worth the wait."
Max Payne 3 will be a much welcomed addition to the US retail market, as software sales have been stagnating. March sales data is expected later this week, but the numbers won't likely be good.

Holy shit, this comes out May 15th? I thought it was WAY later than that, fuck yes
No PC. :(
First big game in 2012 that I've been looking forward to. The Euphoria physics really take the cake in the footage I've seen so far.
No PC. :(
Sadly a few weeks behind console releases for some reason (29th of May).
Already pre-ordered the special edition with the statue and everything. Soo fucking pumped for this game.
Sadly a few weeks behind console releases for some reason (29th of May).
MUCH better than half a year, like it usually was with Rockstar.

i think he meant no pc as in he doesnt have a pc to play it
Grr... six more weeks...
Lets hope this is a real opinion and not a bought one.
I am expecting a SERIOUS dissapointment. Max Payne was a great game, the second one was pretty good too, but to me, this looks like a cash in on the series. I desperately want a solid single player game that's not bullshit.

It's Rockstar, you should be okay.

There aren't much indications that the game will be shit. It's been something like 9 years since the previous game was out and just like the Red Dead series rockstar is taking its time to release it.
And the single player looks really complete. There are so much different variations of Max through the game and every time I see a picture of him from the game he seems to be wearing a different set of clothes and have a different haircut, so I'm just assuming the singleplayer will be long enough to show off all of them.
[editline]9th April 2012[/editline]
The only massively disappointing sequel from Rockstar I can think of is Manhunt 2, and the series has never been this good as a whole anyway.

Fair enough. I'm just really pessimistic when it comes to video games. I really want it to be great, but my brain won't let me believe until I see it.

Sam?
I'm 50/50 about how good this game will be.
There's been no evidence of multiplayer has there? I hope not, but I haven't been doing much research on this and I just cant help but think they may attempt it.

No it's a little different it's going to suck fuck you Rockstar :(((((
has rockstar ever made a bad game?
(besides la noire arguably)
[editline]9th April 2012[/editline]
look at any of the technology and gameplay reveals they have shown, its on par with red dead redemption in terms of quality
L.A. Noire was for the most part, Team Bondi's. Rockstar just gave a helping hand in development, and obviously marketing.
I'd say it surpasses Red Dead Redemption, going by the ongoing improvements to the fluidity and Euphoria (and RAGE) engine.
And the fact that this game doesn't have any loading screens - that's a fucking beautiful thing.

There is - start your research now, because the multiplayer sounds AND looks like some good and exceptional fun. Start with the video ^

No, its not that. Its the fact that I really loved the fuck out of Max Payne, and seeing it revived is either going to be really awesome or terrible because they changed what made Max Payne Max Payne. I want a great game to come of this, but I can see so many things going wrong I can only hope it comes out alright. From what I've seen in this thread, it seems alright, but I'm not getting my hopes up yet.
Watching the multiplayer video, I can't help but question how all the bullet time works with other people. How do you look to other people, can you tell if someone is in bullet time, do you move faster relative to others as opposed to slowing down the bots in single player?
there is multiplayer
it sounds pretty awesome though

That looks... amazing.

I was thinking of disappointing sequels to talk about in my post and Splinter cell Conviction came to mind, sorry about that

LA Noire wasn't made by Rockstar, it was produced by them.
Also Manhunt 2 is pretty bad.
I'd be surprised if in Singleplayer some gunshots could dismember an arm, for example. Too violent maybe? though it's already pretty darn violent.
basically, this picture from the mp thread

i assume that everyone moves and aims the same speed in bullet time, however the advantage that the player that activates it gets is that they know when it activates and know what they'll do when in bullettime
That makes a lot of sense. I was confused on how it would work, but this looks like it'd work and be counterable if you were good enough and have good reaction times, its not just slow them down and gain the obvious upper hand.

More games need to be like Soldier of Fortune with tons of dismember points.
I'd love to see a game with really detailed gun wounds at several points of the body, instead of just the same hole decal slapped all around the body.
The best would be to have a game where every npc is made of several layers of organs, muscles and bones (just like a human being) and the more damage he gets the more you can see through the layers. It would require one hell of a CGU for more than 5 enemies to appear at once but it would still be awesome.

Left 4 dead 2. Sure it can fuck up sometimes, but the first time I played it, shooting zombies and you actually see where you shoot them, they are made of layers of skin and bone and muscle, it just blew my mind.

On the latter point, didn't the new Mortal Kombat and God of War 3 (for certain enemies) do something similar?

Dead Island did the same thing. You could even break arms and legs and see the animation get disabled and the arm turned into a flabby piece of flesh. It was also kinda useful as you could basically incapacitate bigger zombies with it.
